The prospect of a superbug that infects and disrupts internal organs is not too pleasant to consider.

Are we in for a Twelve Monkeys scenario? I don't know.

Generally, doesn't evolution disfavor pathogens that kill hosts at a high percentage and swiftly?

Super bugs like Ebola often wipe out a village so fast that few survivors can travel to infect other areas. The worst are bugs that kill about 10% and have a long dormant period where the victim can move about and transmit to others.
