Fox's Chetry: Rove "Attack Dog," Surprised by His Call for Civility; Ratner Off Game

I like Kiran Chetry. Kiran chetry is a friend of mine. Alright, she isn't a friend of mine. But the mother-to-be is a pleasant presence in her role of co-host on Fox & Friends Weekend. Still, in her comments on Karl Rove this morning, she let a certain DNC-mindset show.

The topic was Rove's appearance yesterday at the winter meeting of the Republican National Committee, at which he laid out a battle plan for the 2006 mid-term elections. Rove was shown saying "honorable people can have honest political differences, and we should strive for civility and intellectual integrity in our debates and arguments."

That seemed to surprise Kiran: "Rove, known for being the one who is the attack dog at the White House, was actually calling for civility."

No word from Kiran on those civilized gentlemen of the Democratic party. You know, the ones who portrayed the palpably decent Samuel Alito as a lying, unethical, racist misogynist.

An aside: Kiran's co-host Julian Phillips, while praising Rove's effectiveness, expressed surprise at his appearance at the RNC meeting since "a lot of people thought he might be disappearing with the indictment of Scooter Libby."

Later, liberal Ellen Ratner was off her game in debating conservative columnist Jim Pinkerton in "The Long & the Short of It" segment.

Ratner set a trap for herself and promptly fell into it. She began by laying out Rove's key argument: that Democrats live in a pre-9/11 world while Republicans live in a post-9/11 world. But while claiming that Democrats are "just as terrified" at what happened, she claimed:

"We just have a very different strategy, those of us who disagree with the war, as to how to protect America."

Kiran sweetly sprung the trap, asking the obvious question: "what is the strategy?"

The sum total of Ratner's recommendations for fighting the war on terror? A totally defensive one: inspect more ship containers coming into the US, and "better borders." She seemed to hesitate slightly in making her latter suggestion, no doubt aware that Democrats are hardly known as the party of hardened borders and tough immigration policies. Ay carumba!

Later, when it came to domestic surveillance, Ratner got her search engines confused. She spoke of the controversy surrounding the government's demand for information collected by "Yahoo" on its users' searches. It was Google, Ellen.

She compounded her stumble, saying "we don't want people in our homes." Sounds downright unhospitable, Ellen. She later amended "we don't want the government in our homes." And here I thought Dems believe 'it takes a village'!

Ratner then managed a straight face in seconding Hillary Clinton's criticism of President Bush for 'outsourcing' our foreign policy on Iran to the Europeans. Ratner criticized the "ceding of power" to other countries and "giving up the Iran negotiations to the European Union."

This from a spokesman for the Democrats, the party that worships mulilateralism, whose John Kerry wanted to give the UN a veto on our actions, that loves to accuse W of being a go-it-alone cowboy. Please.

One last Ratner gaffe: she claimed Democrats don't live in a "pre-11 world." Does that make Ratner a perfect 12?

Ellen, please, before your next appearance, get a good night's sleep and brew yourself a nice strong pot of Contra Coffee. Remember, we're living in a post-11 world here!

Kiran hangs out with her librrrrrul buds in NYC. At least she's not as shrill a shill as Juliette Huddy.

(Dem plan for defeating terrorism: Let 'em in, let 'em take what they want, and when they've got what they came for they'll just leave. Only then will life be peaceful and normal. And it doesn't even require any guns!)

I enjoyed Pinkerton's slam of Hillary this morning.

Agreed. For those who didn't catch it, Pinkerton described Hillary as really doing nothing other than hoping things go badly abroad and opportunistically attacking the Bush administration.

Well, the rat-woman is right about one thing: ship inspections. An awfully large bomb could be placed in one of those that would--in its aftermath--cripple international trade.

I saw our favorite Jersey Girl on the Weekend Today show. She is scared the Osama might attack us again and we have done nothing to defend our homeland. Cambell Brown failed to ask her if she's in support of domestic spying then.

"Well, she's always wrong, it's true. But this morning she was really stumbling."

I noticed the same thing. Initially, I thought Pinkerton had his morning coffee cuz he seemed to have started the segment with both guns blazing. Ratner seemed to have been caught napping. I always enjoy Pinkerton speaking - however, does it seem that he struggled with stuttering in his life? He comes across as very polite and he gets interrupted by Ratner & others much too easy. This morning he had his thoughts all in line, however.

Well, the rat-woman is right about one thing: ship inspections.

It would be nice if you could physically inspect every container (although of course if there's a nuke targeting the port it's gonna go off before the inspection) but the different approach Bush has taken -- inspections conducted in home ports, aggressive profiling and source tracing, etc -- are illustrative of the difference between the defensive crouch advocated by 'Rats and the aggressive/preemptive forward engagement favored by Pubbies.

does it seem that he struggled with stuttering in his life?

I noticed that too because I think he's one of the best on TV. Just speculating here but, it also looks like he may have had a cleft palett and, that may have induced self consciousness, which induced the stuttering? No matter, I'm glad he's on our side!

It's ticked me off for a long long time....The White House did not respond when the left made political hay out of claiming the Bush Administration called those opposed to the war "unpatriotic".

It was always a lie....a lie that became accepted as fact because no one ever denied it.

Actually, Yaya, lots of people denied it, including the President, who did so several times. The media just IGNORES it and lets the democrats go on whining about this bogus accusation that NO ONE in the party made. Of course, I myself will make it, but I am a private person.

By the time the 2006 elections roll around the whole country will know what traitorites and treasonites the entire Democrat Party is. If any American voter thinks the Democrat Party can defend America for one second, they are smoking reefer. In fact, the Democrat Party has directly caused the deaths of thousands of innocents and our miltary by ading and betting the enemy. This whole war on terror would be a lot further along had the Democrats worked along with GW Bush, as the Republicans did with FDR during WWII.

As for gasoline prices, I do not want to hear one word about high prices. The American people stood by like puppets when the Democrat Party did not support new drilling in ANWAR and other locations. Folks, you have cut your own throat. Now, pay up!!!

At times I notice he seems to struggle getting his thoughts into words - plus, add the fact he gestures a lot with his hands, probably in an effort to help convey his thoughts..

Heheheh. By the way, another thing I want to comment on is Ratner's endorsement of the "Why We Fight" movie, which Gibson said last night that McCain appears in. Apparently this movie is NOT done in the tradition of Frank Capra, but instead is accusing the Pentagon of pushing war in order to enrich defense contractors.

I wanted to warn pepople about this film, which Ratner just LOVED. Enough said.

Saturday or Sunday morning at the Finkelstein residence:

Alarm goes off at 7:OO am...Mrs. Finkelstein purrs...."Mark, the kids are still sleeping. We have time. Come back to bed for a little while...pretty please!!"

Mark replies.."Sorry dear, I can't. I have to get up right now so I can go watch Ellen Ratner."
