Those of us who are, let's say, not necessarily huge fans of Julian Phillips, co-host of Fox & Friends Weekend, didn't have to wait long for some fresh grist for our mill.
In the first few minutes of this morning's show, we:
1. we learned that Julian wears driving gloves while driving his pride & joy, a super-customized Mercedes;
2. saw the ostentatiously religious Phillips manage to slip in a reference to his church attendance; and
3. witnessed him discuss in the same sentence the death of the West Virginia miners and that of . . . a whale.
At the very top of the show, conversation turned to Phillips' ride. The topic was a lawsuit that threatens to blackout Blackberry, the handheld device that lets people get their emails in real time. Apparently the device is so addictive some call it 'Crackberry.'
In any case, Julian admitted that he's so hooked on his Blackberr that he uses it when driving in traffic. That's when co-host Kiran Chetry wondered out loud how Julian can manipulate the keyboard while wearing his . . . driving gloves. At first I thought the idea that Phillips actually wore driving gloves was a joke . . . until Julian confirmed it, saying "I don't have the driving gloves on all the time."
At that point, co-host Alisyn Camerota chimed in "did you know that Julian has a hand-made, collector's edition, one-of-a-kind Mercedes?"
Julian broke in: "We know that already, they've hijacked the car. It's been stolen on the show by our little producers."
Our "little" producers? I guess driving Chevys is only for the little people.
Retorted Alisyn, mocking Phillips' materialism: "I'd never seen anything like it. I said 'what is that, an International Scout? And he said 'please! This is my fabulous Mercedes.'"
Julian suddenly switched into grown-up mode, somberly announcing "A bittersweet day today. We've been waiting hopefully for good news from West Virginia, as well as that whale that was stranded in the Thames River."
What-t-t-t-t? Tell me Phillips didn't equate the deaths of two miners with that of a whale?
Next, Julian is one of those guys who wants you to know that he's a religious person and a big sports fan. He managed to work both facts into his next riff, announcing that "after church" there was going to be a big cookout out his house to watch the NFC and AFC championship games.
When Alisyn asked "when should we be there?" Julian managed to get his church-going in again. "Right after church - around 1 o'clock," he answered.
Fox & Friends Weekend/Julian Phillips ping to the Today Show ping list.
Those were West Virginia miners who didn't flunk out of Engineering School at Purdue before graduating in Black Studies.
Hey, that's actually courageous for Phillips to mention he goes to church. That's not going to sit well at all with the type of people he'd like to impress.
Did Julian do THAT?
I guess it's another slow news day....
Fox & Friends beat to death the story of Julian's Mercedes & the fact he wears gloves while driving.
I tuned in just in time to hear the "crackberry" line...that was a good one.
.....Did Julian do THAT?....
That's the word on the street.
Wow, you guys ar brutal- like an anti-Hannity thread! I've never watched this guy before- sounds like a piece of work.
But to be fair, Hannity's radio show has gotten much better lately. Not so chatty.
In prior episodes Fox & Friends beat to death the story of Julian's Mercedes & the fact he wears gloves while driving.
This is an old "story."
I take your point. It's a fine line, I'd say. Obviously there is nothing wrong at all in mentioning church attendance, and to the contrary I understand there could even be an obligation to proclaim one's Christian faith. It's just that, week after week, Julian manages to work in references to his faith that some here find, well, ostentatious.
Ping! To read after church.
I'd like someone to tell me how someone makes a living working two days a week doing the morning news? Also, where did he come from and where can we send him??
He's just so impossibly bad.
I'd like to see Julian replaced by Kelly Wright, one good reporter and gentleman.
I agree, but I wonder if he has the same view to "soak the rich" liberal tax policy.
LOL. I see Julian's let you inside his garage!
