A Hudson County lawmaker who sits on the Assembly Transportation Committee has drafted legislation that would enable illegal immigrants in New Jersey to obtain a restricted driver's license.

Why should a criminal be given a license at all? “Illegal” = “criminal”.

They can already get a driver's license from their home country.

*PING!*

Assemblyman Brian Stack, D-Union City, plans to submit a bill to the committee in the spring that calls for illegal immigrants who pass driving tests to obtain a document that allows them to drive, but that could not be used as official identification.

Yup, you can operate a 3000 lb. vehicle, kill a few "Gringos" on the road after downing muchos Cervesas, but it can't be used for an "I.D."! LOL!

What part of "illegal" do these stupid politicians not understand? They're not supposed to be getting licenses in the first place. Hell, they're not even supposed to be here.

I believe enough of these can make an OBL-er out of anyone who has no character, backbone, or morals and standards.

IOW, the average Whore Politician and Presidente'

They argue that illegal immigrants should get the standard driver's license available to other motorists. "The major thing we don't want is a two-tiered system of driver's license that is based on immigration status," said Chia-Chia Wang of American Friends Service Committee. "That would create a database of undocumented people that the federal government can access, and it would set a precedent of singling out undocumented immigrants as second-class citizens."

I agree but for totally the opposite reasons. This would be a terrible precedent because to give them any sort of driving privileges suggests that there is some sort legitimacy to their presence here. I don't want them to be given status as second-class citizens because that would be an upgrade. I am comfortable with their current status as illegal aliens who are subject to deportation.

Any encounter by an illegal alien with a public official at any level (Federal, State, Local) of government should result in a deportation proceeding.

Sorry, you don't understand.

Illegals are already Second-Class Citizens...we Americans are Third class!

Want proof?

The Eeeee-lite Ruling Class are going to extrodinary lengths to make sure Illegals keep coming in, even to the point of ignoring 80% of the US Population when we say no mas!

Therefore, the Illegals have more power and influence than the non-Eeeee-lite Americans. Hence they are "Second-Class", and we are relegated to "Third-Class"!

All we are good for is to be 'Bots at the voting booth, and a source of Tax Revenue...without representation!

Time for the "Tree of Liberty" to get watered...that Jefferson...what a visionary!

Really? So the people could technically make citizen's arrests in many states. VERRRRY interesting...

I'm going to check my state's laws. I know people who are hiring these people and have friends who are losing some business because they refuse to hire illegals. Might just be time to get some people together and even the playing field a bit.

I posted a link to the federal law that stipulates what is what as to illegal immigration, and now cannot locate it again. But, it's a felony to be in the country without benefit of legality.

Which is why states and the federal government have such a round of disagreements over who will do what as to the illegal alien populations...the states are limited in what they can do due to the federal legislation and the federal legislation is not enforced by the feds, and thus, the feds pass off responsibilities onto states, who then cannot act, etc. and it's a vicious and expensive notmerry-go-round for the states.

Which is why the emergency conditions by some because it allows them to receive federal millions and assistance and other resources.

I'm not being too specific here because I lost the link to the legislations involved here, sorry.

I'm sure a resouceful FRer otherwise will have it, if you look.

I don't know how a citizen goes about making a citizen's arrest but someone here will surely know more than I about that.

I agree. There should be NO licenses for illegal aliens - they should not even be here. If found out, they should be deported.

Would it be legal for a tourist from Mexico to drive in NJ with his Mexican driver's license? If so, then why couldn't that same person drive in NJ with that same license if he were an illegal immigrant instead of a tourist?

Because a Mexican tourist would be here legally and an illegal alien would be here illegally, big difference.

The same reason why if you move to another state one must get that state's driver's license to replace the other one from the previous state. Usually a new resident of a state has a certain period of time in order to get a new license. Also, when you fill the application you are required to fill in information such as your social security number. It's the law and there are reasons why these laws are made. Driving is a privilege and not a right.
