The timber companies did salvage as many trees as they could on their own property. This is the extras that people didn't know what to do with. For example, my cousin had 5 acres of mature oaks and pines and the cheapest route to clear her land was to allow an independent logger salvage the trees for him to sell at whatever price he could get. Otherwise, it would have cost her a fortune. Believe me there are a lot of similar stories.

She did the right thing to have the trees sold. Keep in mind that one is not limited to a local saw mill or one bidder that makes you a take it or leave it offer. There are still many Mom & Pop saw mills in operation in East Texas. Those mills outside the Rita Area should also be in the market for the salvaged trees.

The real demand at this time will be Pole Trucks to ship the logs.

**Not to long ago, some guys got busted salvaging (stealing) Chestnut Trees on Federal property. These trees had died 80+ years ago and were still in marketable condition.
