It helps a lot if you have the other photo to compare, which of course I did not. It does look out of proportion now that you call it to my attention.
Maybe it's just my history major kicking in, but there's so much about it that doesn't ring true. Aside from the elements I've mentioned, no headline at the time would have referred to "KKK gals", the welcome sign is very suspect in its appearance, and the photo credit to ANYthing ".com" is odd. Thanks for agreeing that it's not something that should be used to support an argument against Sanger.
It's normal for all of us to glance at pictures and take them at face value; I'd say that these days, when images are so easy to manipulate, we all need to look at photos with our eyes wide open, and one eyebrow raised. :)
