In the 60's and 70's my father worked for a company that manufactured fragrances. They would contract boats to follow migrating whales to collect the ambergris. It was a key ingredient in many perfumes and was one reason why some perfume was so expensive.

As a teenager I worked at the manufacturing plant. You wouldn't believe some of the things they used to make perfume. I used to tell people what I saw but no one would believe that something so awful could create something so fragrant.

I just want to know who the person was that looked at whale vomit and said, "I can make some nice smelling stuff out of that."
