The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have given the US military a huge advantage by providing invaluable real, practical experience for both its troops, weapons systems, logistical systems. A lot equiptment has been upgraded, budgets dollars are getting allocated. Rummie is right. It has made them stronger by far!

BS. Only 12 out of 37 US Army Combat Brigades are currently deployed overseas. Utter propaganda BS from the ASSO Press. As everyone from the Army Sec down has said, we are currently structured to fight 3 campaigns simultaneously. Just more lies from the DNC directed "Asso Propaganda".

Lets see...liberals like keep recruiters from visiting universities. Liberals like describing the military as the last option for the uneducated and unemployed, a lie only too quickly parroted by the MSM. Liberals succeeded in the feminization of the military where careerist PC personnel stay in for 20 to 30 years and warriors can only stand to be in for 4 to 6 years.
And the ba$t@rd$ that had such a great hand in this, now report the results of their efforts as if they had nothing to do with it.
Why don't we have, as in WWII, war bonds for sale, and a steady stream of patriotic movies starring Hollywood's finest. On second thought, I wouldn't watch anything these un-Americans were in.
Barring that, why haven't these treasonous people been locked up.
Can you tell that this situation makes me so angry I could spit.

Isn't that what OBL said in his last communique? (rolling eyes). Now the leftist press is parotting OBL's 'talking points'!And OBL got it from the leftist press. It's like an Old Media/AlQueda Echo Chamber.

Yes, same sh!tbird; different war. A defeatist that is still paid by the same anti-American groups.

I cannot put up with this point of view. It seems to be premised, first of all, on the idea that armies are for something other than fighting wars. Military skill is something you use or lose, and armies that have no wars end up being political institutions of ass=kissers.

We have 150,000 troops in Iraq.
We have 1,000,000 men in the armed forces.
Something smells here. Perhaps the writer is auditioning for a job with aljazeera, or CNN.

"As evidence, Krepinevich points to the Army's 2005 recruiting slump missing its recruiting goal for the first time since 1999 "
Yeah it's EXPANDED quota to staff the new expanded active duty force levels Congress authorized. Gee funny how Asso Press does NOT mention that they made 97% of their target. Funny how 97% is a "recruiting slump" but the same Asso Press cannot claim a 97% ACCURACY rate. More lies spewed forth by our failed Media.

"From the article:
"While not released publicly, a copy of the report was provided in response to an Associated Press inquiry."
Which means it is a bogus lie that some dems sent to the Pentagon and then sent to the press to back up OBL!! These people are the enemies of this country!"
Well my take on that wording was there is a "FEAR" to outright use the word LEAK these days as it draws immediate attention. If the report was not public then somebody leaked the fact it had been done, how else would the AP know to ask for it.
Or there is no such report and this article is for the purpose of having MacCain back on next Sunday morning to bash Rummy.

The most valuable army in the world is one in which the overwhelming majority of the personnel are combat veterans. That, right now, is what makes the US forces the most feared in the world.... (They all can talk, belittle, berate and posture, but the US is the one with the most experienced forces plus the best equipment....and the rest of the world's armies are just green with envy and aren't eager to come up against the Eagle...)

It's certainly possible taht the volunteer force faces some strains, that the army is too small and needs to be expanded. In fact, the article acknowledges there are some fixes in the works and under consideration.
the article's agenda is what's troubling. Leftists are always trying to come up with some reason we can't do something, even as we are doing it, and whether or not it needs to be done. That part is all spin. If we'd just get out of Iraq and Afghanistan the army would be great, but then we'd be out of Iraq and Afghanistan. I bet the army also would have been very strong had we not been in the Pacific and Europe during WWII.

So...call in the Marines, LOL! I get so sick of this gloom and doom "Army did not meet it's recruiting goals" crap. They exceeded retention goals (107%) and in fiscal 2005, fell only 8 percent short of the annual recruiting goal. The Navy, the Marine Corps and the Air Force all exceeded their goals.

I have a simple, cost-effective solution to these reports of military weakness: stop reading AP! It's a bigger nest of commies than the old Daily World. The radicals among us may wish to consider something even more potent: stop posting AP. Bringing AP into Free Republic is like infecting ourselves with Shigella germs.

Some people need a clue. The operations are huge, the enemy incoming, and the US pounding mercilessly at them and will not stop until they're all dead.
Everyday air operations are conducted as the site above indicates.
When is the media going to report enemy losses instead of obviously giving them more morale support and attempting to destroy US morale?
