Next time you read about 'what women want,' check the research -- it's likely to be flimsy

That's how we acquire so many houses. Just kidding Favious.

I met and married a man I wouldn't have considered perfect in every way (there aren't any ;-). Yet with each passing day, passing year, my esteem and admiration of him grows. In my eyes, he is the perfect man. The thing is, there is just one "perfect man" for every woman - and it takes some time to finally find him.

Shoes fall under the classification of 'clothes.' So do handbags.

Kinda cool here in the Panhandle this morning so FR is a good excuse to avoid things I really should be doing. Actually, the topic of what women want is quite interesting to me. I am sorry that I can't add anymore to the real topic of this discussion but to say I found my mate in a lower middle class conservative family with strong morals. It's lasted 34 years now but if I were to lose this wonderful woman, I would rather eat glass than go shopping in the current crop of American women. It's not that I don't think there are other wonderful woman out there. It just seems that the crop has become very weedy.

Clue for Dowd: Your lack of desirability has absolutely nothing to do with your successful career, nor your intelligence. Keep looking and I'm sure you'll eventually figure it out. ;-)

That is so wrong. So very, very wrong.

Thanks, freedomlover. You've done good with your facts on fowl--Turkey, that is.

P.S. I like the Osceola sub-species since they're the closest ones to me distance-wise.

Lucky you! I also managed to find the perfect spouse (perfect for me anyway). If I lost my husband, I doubt that I would ever marry again. I think part of it is just that your taste gets refined as you get older, and you have a better idea of what you will or will not put up with, and with what it is you're really looking for.

The most ambitious women frequently don't marry at all or don't sustain their marriages because they work very long hours and put their careers first. It's a little easier for type A men -- though they often end up divorced as well, they can find a younger second wife if their bank accounts are flush. This, however, applies only to a small percentage of women. It may look like an epidemic in the circles Maureen Dowd moves in, though.

You'll never know women--at least not all women--though it's been fun trying. To begin with, they're all different. (Er...uh...on the other hand...in some respects they're all alike!) Tolstoy was right. Your best bet is to know your wife. That'll keep you busy for a lifetime.

Actually, it's supposed to be a secret. I don't know how Mr. Marx caught on. He must be smarter than the others.

Natch. Last time I went with my hunting friend, we only heard a gobbler call once & nothing else after.

The tom musta caught sight of me trying to swat away those cruel-as-the-DEVIL female anopheles--mosquitos,that is.

"Women moving up still strive to marry up. Men moving up still tend to marry down. The two sexes' going in opposite directions has led to an epidemic of professional women missing out on husbands and kids."

Poor Maureen. She's so confused.

To begin with, like the rest of the Leftists, she's stuck in a mindless paradigm--in her case, a two-dimensional one in an infinite-dimensional cosmos. No wonder she's so frustrated!

"Marrying up" could mean many things. To Maureen, it apparently means an increase in financial and/or social status.

To many people (who probably wouldn't use that phrase in the first place) it could mean marrying someone whose principles you admire more than your own. Or who is more enlightened. Or who has things to teach that you want to learn. Or who is more loving than anyone you have ever known before. Or who has interests that you admire. Or who is someone whom you admire.

In fact, marrying someone you love and cherish could be considered "marrying up".

Certainly, marrying someone who is not good for you is "marrying down".

My wife and my daughter are both brilliant and both have advanced degrees. Neither was interested in "marrying up" (or "down") some sort of social or economic scale.

The world and all it has to offer is far more fascinating than Maureen Dowd's corny two-dimensional viewpoint. That's one thing that makes her so uninteresting.

Yes indeed. There are more successful marriages out there than we know. Oh but to again go back to the innocence of youth and to a time when our tastes were still being defined. Actually, I attribute my "luck" in finding my wife with a God who knew better than I what I needed and answered my prayers even before I whispered them. I have no better explanation but if I were to find myself without a mate, I would first bend a knee for help.
