Interesting article on the bad research that reporters use to support their women's trends articles. Surprise surprise, it appears that Maureen Dowd used questionable research in her book.

Is Dowd saying her desirability dropped, because she has a high IQ? Is this a "woe is me" type of rant from her?

Dowd writes in her book that success disadvantages women seeking to marry and have a family.

Women are single because they are spoiled rotten. I know too many great guys, myself included, who have been screwed over by women who later changed their minds and blew us off because we weren't perfect in every way. The pattern is, marry some really nasty guy, then have to run for their lives, then meet us and blow off a great relationship because the previous one turned out so bad. Repeat process until another total loser is encountered, then have bad opinion of men confirmed guaranteeing the next nice guy will get screwed over.

What do women want? They have no idea.

Why is Dowd worried about the implications of intelligence in women? It's not a problem for her. She should worry about how a brain can be so distorted by ideology that it ceases to function. That she could discuss with first-hand experience.

The trouble is, a high percentage of "psychology" research uses university kids for research subjects. There are inherent flaws in the methodology and the findings can only be applied to that particular university; they have no application in the broader population. Of course any young boy in college wants a girl who isn't quite as bright or accomplished as he is, because he's still an insecure young doofus, but that doesn't mean that he'll feel the same way when he's a sophisticated and successful man of 50.

Clue for Dowd: Your lack of desirability has absolutely nothing to do with your successful career, nor your intelligence. Keep looking and I'm sure you'll eventually figure it out. ;-)

The most ambitious women frequently don't marry at all or don't sustain their marriages because they work very long hours and put their careers first. It's a little easier for type A men -- though they often end up divorced as well, they can find a younger second wife if their bank accounts are flush. This, however, applies only to a small percentage of women. It may look like an epidemic in the circles Maureen Dowd moves in, though.

You'll never know women--at least not all women--though it's been fun trying. To begin with, they're all different. (Er...uh...on the other hand...in some respects they're all alike!) Tolstoy was right. Your best bet is to know your wife. That'll keep you busy for a lifetime.

"Women moving up still strive to marry up. Men moving up still tend to marry down. The two sexes' going in opposite directions has led to an epidemic of professional women missing out on husbands and kids."

Poor Maureen. She's so confused.

To begin with, like the rest of the Leftists, she's stuck in a mindless paradigm--in her case, a two-dimensional one in an infinite-dimensional cosmos. No wonder she's so frustrated!

"Marrying up" could mean many things. To Maureen, it apparently means an increase in financial and/or social status.

To many people (who probably wouldn't use that phrase in the first place) it could mean marrying someone whose principles you admire more than your own. Or who is more enlightened. Or who has things to teach that you want to learn. Or who is more loving than anyone you have ever known before. Or who has interests that you admire. Or who is someone whom you admire.

In fact, marrying someone you love and cherish could be considered "marrying up".

Certainly, marrying someone who is not good for you is "marrying down".

My wife and my daughter are both brilliant and both have advanced degrees. Neither was interested in "marrying up" (or "down") some sort of social or economic scale.

The world and all it has to offer is far more fascinating than Maureen Dowd's corny two-dimensional viewpoint. That's one thing that makes her so uninteresting.

Judging from the covers of women's magazines, women want:

1. To eat lots of yummy, rich desserts.

2. Be really skinny anyway.
