It's very disappointing, as to Senate Republicans, on these issues of illegal aliens, I agree. My local Congressman, after gaining election, announced he was "for a guest worker program" and as a Republican, had not included that in his campaign literature. I have to admit this, I felt ripped off.
Have you ever seen the old movie "Johnny Dangerously"? One scene had Danny DeVito as a lobbyist type making a game show-like presentation to a crusading district attorney who was stepping on too many toes.
"It's time to...Play Ball! You and the Misses could enjoy an all-expenses-paid world cruise...or you can sleep with the fishes."
That's pretty much what happens to all the nice Jimmy Stewarts we send up there. Those who've already amassed a fortune before running (like Frist) are motivated by ego or the chance to work the system from within for the benefit of people like himself at the expense of people like yourself.
It doesn't help that their unlimited resources edge "Jimmy Stewart" out of the running when he musters up enough courage to seek office. McCain's (there he is again) finance reform law didn't do a thing to help common citizens compete against that.
If you rounded up any random grouping of elected Senators or Representatives for jury duty almost all of them would be dismissed on the grounds that they don't qualify as "peers".
