Sen. Clinton Blasts Bush on Eavesdropping
By RON FOURNIER, AP Political Writer 7 minutes ago
Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton on Wednesday called President Bush's explanations for eavesdropping on domestic telephone calls "strange" and "far-fetched," launching a blistering attack on the White House ahead of the president's State of the Union address.
"Obviously, I support tracking down terrorists. I think that's our obligation. But I think it can be done in a lawful way," the New York Democrat said.
Clinton, a potential 2008 presidential candidate, told reporters she did not yet know whether the administration's warrantless eavesdropping broke any laws. But the senator said she did not buy the White House's main justifications for the tactic.
"Their argument that it's rooted in the authority to go after al-Qaida is far-fetched," she said in an apparent reference to a congressional resolution passed after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attack. The Bush administration has argued that resolution gave the president authority to order such electronic surveillance as part of efforts to protect the nation from terrorists.
"Their argument that it's rooted in the Constitution inherently is kind of strange because we have FISA and FISA operated very effectively and it wasn't that hard to get their permission," she said. The super-secretive Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court was established by Congress to approve eavesdropping warrants, even retroactively, but Bush has argued that the process often takes too long.

Like obtaining FBI files, or by hiring a Hollywood Private Investigator to dig up dirt on bimbo eruptions?
Here's the way it is ~ there's a bunch out there commited to killing you and your constituents, men women and children, in the vilest manner possible, and they don't happen to care if you believe they exist or not.
Most of the rest of us are prepared to resist.
We don't need your kind around here anymore.
...to apologize for the crimes of the United States against the Holy religion of Islam".
There - that's more accurate.
The trump card here is embodied in two words....Zaccharias and Moussaoui. FISA turned down the Bush administration's request to scour his computer, pre 9-11.
"Flailing," the only word that describes Hillary.
Thank God that most Americans see through her ridiculous rhetoric. Even Dems don't really trust or like her. Please, please let her win the nomination of her party...what a landslide Republican victory that will be!
The worlds smartest woman cant figure it out YET???
No wonder Bill gets away with CHEATING on her DAILY!~}
I'd like to see how the terrorists would "lawfully" treat Sen. Clinton should they be able to somehow kidnap her.
Clinton is looking more and more like a lightweight to me. People consider her to be her husband's equal (which is not saying much IMO), but when she speaks she sounds like a lightweight.
Yep, I do believe Bill and Hill brought Echelon into their 'criminal' world. They were able to use that information to blackmail people, and coerce them to do what they wanted them to do.
The smartest woman in the world even got suckered into commenting about putting restrictions on tracking down the terrorists? Especially when her state was one of the places they attacked and killed thousands?
Yet another misunderestimation.
Where are those Guinness beer guys...
".. done in a lawful way."
lol
she is a work, indeed
This is wonderful. Really, the more we can push Hillary and the other Leftie Moonbats to oppose everything we try to do in the WOT, the better.
You think? I think this gets translated down to the basic, long-standing impression that on defense issues, the GOP position is "We defend America" and the Dem position is "We defend America, too, but..." And then fill in the blank with whatever the complaint of the day is.
That was my reaction to that line, too. Lawful way from a Clinton. lol!
Have the Republicans in NY found someone to run against her?
