Twins' mom: 'He loved them, they loved him'TOMMY TOMLINSONttomlinson@charlotteobserver.comKim Crespi called Thursday morning. She wanted to talk. She spoke from California, where she was making arrangements to bury her twins today. Tessara and Samantha, 5 years old, were stabbed to death last Friday at their home in southeast Mecklenburg. David Crespi -- Kim's husband, the girls' father -- is charged with murder. Kim Crespi said she doesn't know why her husband would have killed the girls, or what could have triggered the attack. But she said she believes, based on what police told her after interviewing her husband, that he was prepared to kill her and the family's other three children: "He said his darkness was for all of us." On Tuesday, Kim Crespi spoke at the girls' funeral in Charlotte. She plans to do the same today in Sacramento, where the family used to live. She said she wants to assure people that God is helping her family; she wants to encourage people to seek help for mental illness; and she wants to tell people how great her daughters were. She said that's why she called Thursday. "It's my moment to talk about Tessie and Sam," she said. "Everybody's not going to care tomorrow. But today they do." She said everything was fine when she left their house last Friday. She got a last-minute hair appointment. Her husband, who had the day off, said he would watch the girls. The other kids were at school. The twins were eating mashed potatoes and gravy. That was at 12:05 p.m. When she returned at 1:20, police stopped her two blocks from the house. "I honestly thought that Dave had taken his own life," she said. He had never threatened any of the children, she said, and gave no warning that he was about to do anything drastic. "He was their father," she said. "He loved them, they loved him." She said she remembers only one time when he hinted at darker thoughts about his children. "He (once) said, when he got depressed, he said, `I am sad that this world is so dark sometimes, and they would be a part of it.' And I said, `You wouldn't ever do anything, would you?' And he said, `No, no.' " Kim Crespi said her husband was taking medications for depression. She said David Crespi's lawyer advised the family not to name the drugs. She said her husband has battled depression the entire time they've been married, more than 10 years. Kim Crespi said he took a months-long leave last year from Wachovia, where he worked as a senior vice president. She said her husband would be fine for long stretches -- "very up, very happy, very connected, funny, brilliant, connected, loving." But then something would trigger his depression. She said she could never figure out what. She said the family had a hard time finding mental-health services, both in California and after they moved to Charlotte. "We're getting the best help right now, and two little people have died," she said. "Now we know of all these people that are available to help us. But when we were really in the throes of it, I was opening the phone book, you know?" This week David Crespi was taken to Central Prison in Raleigh. Kim Crespi said she hasn't seen her husband since his arrest. "We care for Dave, we love him, but it's out of our hands," she said. "There will be a time to deal with Dave for all of us." Today, she has to deal with Tessa and Sam. She said the funeral in Charlotte was "so long," but the burial in California is "goodbye." "We're coming back to Charlotte on Monday and we're gonna start everything one minute at a time," she said. "That's where we're at. We're on the minute plan." She said she draws strength from the prayers from all over the country, from calls from her neighbors, from letters written by her kids' classmates. She said God is looking out for the family members who remain. And she said she wonders if she missed any signs. The week of the slayings, David Crespi read a Wall Street Journal story about a millionaire businessman who struggled with depression most of his life. The man committed suicide by jumping from the ninth floor of his Manhattan apartment building. Kim Crespi read the story, too. She said they talked about it, and she reminded her husband that he was not the same as the man in the story. She said he told her he understood. That Friday, Kim Crespi left the house to get her hair done. Half an hour later, David Crespi called 911.
First Union bought the "Money Store" in 2000 and merged with Wachovia in 2002. So FUNB was not in CA until 2000, I believe. The 'Money Store' takeover was nearly a pure asset aquisition. Very few employees in mid to upper levels survived the transaction. David Crespi was an exception.
The 'merger' of Wachovia was more of a merger than an acquisition, but it was a takeover of WB, by FUNB. A lowsy publicity campaign, a lowsy corporate culture and the Money Store disaster had essentially destroyed the 'First Union' brand. FUNB had the majority share in the merger but they used the Wachovia name because it was trusted and considered conservative. (People like bankers to be conservative.). It has taken only 3 years for the legacy FUNB managers to destroy the Wachovia brand, which had taken generations to build.
As a non-employee, Alia can mention anything negative about Wachovia that she can dig up. Unfortunately, as employees, our hands are somewhat tied.
The thread is being used not just to discuss David, but also to discuss the "Walmarting" of Wachovia. Is there something strange about some of Wachovia's defacto affiliations with UN Global Communist programs? Is it because Wachovia so easily capitulates to the demands of their favorite Socialist consultant: Elsie Cross?
As far as I can see, David is now alone in the world. Even his court-appointed attorney is having casual conversations with people whom she should not, by rights, be conversing (ie, his wife). Whether he did this or not or rather whether he did this alone or not, there is no way to know, because he does not have an advocate. Maybe everyone is so sure that he is 100% guilty, that he does not deserve an advocate, but I find that odd. This is America. In America you are innocent until proven guilty.
FReepers love to gather evidence and usually get yelled at by liberals for not using "Occam's Razor". I agree with Alia, that you won't know which pieces are in the wrong puzzle box until you have gathered enough bits to build the big picture.
How do you know, for sure, that David did this? Did you hear him say he did it? Is he mentally sound enough to know if he did it?
kind of the nature of the place, doncha think?
We don't know anything but what the media reports but if he did kill them then his mental state is not of my concern in determining his punishment. It will never change the fact that he should never be allowed to be in situation where he could do it again. All we can do is give a smile and a hand to those who need them. Also when we do business with people maybe we should think twice before we take all that is legal but not right. You may be taking the last leg someone has to stand on. That should be in every Christian's mind and giving to your church or charity does not make up for those abuses that occur in the way we conduct our business with others. I have a hard time believing sometimes that Christians work in Health insurance, housing, the legal profession or medicine because the way those industries. Do Christians work in businesses?
I certainly don't see acts of Christian charity when it comes to cold "professionalism". I once had a chat with someone who was running a business and I still believe what I said that day "That if you can't run a business by doing what is right then it isn't worth running". We have a society that has moved closer and closer to right being determined by how much we can take from someone else no matter what degree of bullying, trickery, and fine print is required. We then excuse ourselves with "that's just the way it is done" and "its the going rate". I hope those who judge themselves a success by prospering extravagantly on the misery and backs of others sleep well knowing that God does not see the fine print or that you were just doing what everyone else was doing.

I understand. Whether or not there is connection or relatedness, I have no idea. But often, the media has us look either at: ONLY the big picture or ONLY the little one. Sometimes, the two "pictures" need to be looked, and in context and focusing.
Good postulating. Upon the presumption that he indeed murdered them. All we are getting thus far from MSM are few facts but lots of innuendo and implying; which are not facts but "theories".
It has taken only 3 years for the legacy FUNB managers to destroy the Wachovia brand, which had taken generations to build.
Probably worth seeing what other banks FUNB has acquired for "fleecing" purposes. It happens. I'm familiar with the industry. It's business. I understand this. But who brokered this deal? And why? On what basis? Hmmm...
Casual conversations? Not right, not good.
Is it because Wachovia so easily capitulates to the demands of their favorite Socialist consultant: Elsie Cross?
Thanks. I've been looking for a name.
Is it... Elsie Y. Cross?
Ms. Cross contributed to President Clintons Initiative on Race and Harvard Business Schools case study collection. She is a founding member of the Womens subgroup in the Organization Development Network; an advisory board member of The Poynter Institute, and; former chair of the National Training Laboratories Institute for Applied Behavioral Science (NTL) board of directors. Ms. Cross also led managing diversity seminars at the University of Pennsylvanias Wharton Executive Education Center and has been a speaker for many professional organizations.
And her husband, Barry Cross?
Cross was a contributor to President Clintons Initiative on Race and received the 1996 Fielding Institutes Annual Social Justice Award for his participation as an advisor and trainer for a joint research project sponsored by the Fielding Institute, the Philadelphia Human Relations Commission, the Balch Institute and the Kaleel Jamison Foundation. He currently serves as a member of the board of directors of the Diversity Leadership Forum and is also an active member of the National Training Laboratories Institute for Applied Behavioral Science, the Organization Development Network and the Gestalt Institute of Cleveland.
National Training Laboratories Institute for Applied Behavioral Science (NTL), Gestalt Institute or Organizational Development Network.
Read that NTL link: It's got all the socialists networks: National Council of Churches, NEA, Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues, a division of the American Psychological Association, etc.
Elsie: "The Oppression Matrix", Aug 1997 at Cornell, 1997To support this exploration, Elsie has designed the Oppression Matrix, a visual depiction of the divisive swath oppression and oppressive systems cut across an organization. She is also involved with Organization Development Network (ODN). The roster of corporate involvement is interesting. Chock-full of new age language and buzzwords. Based in New Jersey.
Ever heard of Partners for Livable Communities?

Oh Noooo!
Hmm.
1996. Her husband receives the Fielding Institute's award in 1996. Fielding Institute of Santa Barbara is socialist.
1997: Elsie and her husband are on board with President Clinton's Initiative on Race in 1997.
1998. First Union Corp. ( FTU) buys The Money Store Inc. in 1998
Tax Relief -- you posted that In 2000: First Union bought the "Money Store" in 2000 (did it take two years for the deal to seal?). Other article says the deal took place in 1998. Yours also: So FUNB was not in CA until 2000,
2002 FUNC "merges" with Wachovia.
But then there's this:
June 2005: Two weeks ago Wachovia announced that First Union Corp., with which it merged in 2001, and the South Carolina National Corp., which joined it in 1991, had absorbed predecessor companies that dealt in slaves, which it learned from a study by the History Factory, a corporate-research company. A Chicago ordinance requires companies contracting with the city to disclose ties to slavery, and since Wachovia is a partner with a Chicago community-development corporation to build low-income housing, it must comply with city law. The History Factory found that the old Georgia Railroad and Banking Co., which was founded in the early 1830s and was acquired in 1954 by a predecessor to First Union, owned at least 162 slaves. It also found that the Bank of Charleston, which merged in 1926 with a company that Wachovia acquired in 1991, used at least 529 slaves as collateral on mortgaged properties and loans. Wachovia said it was sorry. "I apologize to all Americans, and especially to African-Americans and people of African descent," said Chairman and CEO Ken Thompson. Another executive, Stan Kelly, told colleagues that he is "working to get personally connected to this chapter in our company's and our country's history." The company promised an unspecified financial contribution -- in all likelihood an educational fund or some other endowed trust -- to benefit the descendants of the slaves.

I can't get a firm date for the merger of FUNC and Wachovia nor FUNC and The Money Store.
Nonetheless, the "picture" is looking really, uh, predictable in re "business" by Democrats.
And this is only a part of the "bigger" picture, I've no doubts.
Ancillary:
The History Factory was founded in 1979.

...many of the practitioners in this field, Cross is a black woman who says she bumped up against institutional discrimination early in her working career. And what's the cost of her advice? Don't ask. If you do, she won't tell. We do know she reportedly charges companies as much as $500,000 a year. "I don't want to talk about annual revenues," she snaps.
Ironically, much of the nonlegal imperative for seeking out the diversity industry is based on the misinterpretation of the Hudson Institute's influential 1987 Workforce 2000

When did Elsie enter Wachovia's dealings? Through the "merger" with FUNC? Was it a condition of the merger?
snip:
Elsie Y. Cross, president of Philadelphia-based Elsie Y. Cross Associates Inc., agrees. "In general, larger companies understand that solid diversity initiatives cannot only help attract and retain talented employees, but help the company market its products to a diverse consumer base," she explains. Some consultants believe the increased interest in diversity is due to a robust U.S. economy. But as the economy slows, so will diversity's momentum. "When times are tight, diversity is out," says Wheeler, "no matter how large the company is."
To more closely examine the diversity work being done by corporations, BLACK ENTERPRISE asked Chicago-based Allstate Insurance Co., and the California utility, Pacific Gas & Electric Co., to submit detailed information about their diversity initiatives. These companies agreed to have their efforts analyzed by diversity experts as a means of gaining objective feedback about their programs' strengths and weaknesses.

Also in April 1997: Nothing in writing Willie Brown keeps very few records of anything -- so the public can't find out what he's up to.
snip: The reporter, who told us the story on the condition that he not be named, said Brown was joking. But the point was clear: one way to avoid scrutiny -- and accountability -- is to avoid creating a paper trail. And that's exactly what Brown has done in San Francisco.
Ask for records of the deal Brown orchestrated with Pacific Gas and Electric Co. to stop the city's efforts to buy the utility's Hunters Point power plant -- and stifle public power -- and his office responds: Sorry, there are none.
Ask for correspondence between Brown and Assemblymember Carole Migden (D-San Francisco) concerning the Migden bill that gave Brown unilateral control over Treasure Island, and his office responds: Sorry, there is none.

Seems curious to me that Elsie Cross wouldn't have known about Chicago's "laws" and The History Factories "data".
There are several dates in each merger process. Huber can give you the timelines on each.
Yes. It's that Elsie. (I'll check on who Barry Cross is in some old notes if I can find any mention.)
Elsie got her foot in the door with Ken Thompson in 1997 when a groundbreaking, race-relations workshop was held at the Charlotte convention center. About 500 people attended and were split into tables by race and sex, with one facilitator at each table. Republicans, Democrats, Blacks, Whites and community leaders of all types attended. This was supposed to be the day to "air it all", and believe me much was aired!
Unfortunately, it turned out to be a giant brainwashing session, and I suspect that 98% of the folks in attendance walked out brainwashed. They were told that whites never reach out to blacks, that whites can't get beyond their stereotypes, and that white men have to tear down those glass ceilings for the sake of the entire country. "Ask yourself when did was the last time you invited someone of another race to your home, your church." "Commit today to increase your number of friends of a different race from 0 to 9 or 1 to 10!"
Elsie Cross mesmerized and bewitched the leaders of this city, and the businesses in this city. She has been milking the shareholders of Wachovia, etc, ever since.
Now, about Partners for Liveble Communities - Aren't they the group that pushes the hardest for wealth confiscation?
Here's how it works:
A man buys his house over a period of 30 years.
The man is satisfied because he knows there will be a small inheritance for his children.
The man believes his family will rise out of poverty one generation at a time.
The man gets old and would be just fine on Social Security and his pension, except that he has to buy ever-increasing property taxes.
The man worries that he will have to leave his home because he can't afford the taxes.
The tax manager offers the man a plan: The man can reduce his taxes by signing a paper that says the owed taxes will come out of his estate when he dies.
The man is relieved and signs the paper.
The man dies several years later.
The city takes the house and the land, because that paper was an ever increasing loan with interest, upon which no payments were ever made.
The family wealth has increased by nothing.
The cycle of lower middle class struggling continues and no family wealth is accumulated.
The Partners call their plan a "way to keep seniors in their communities". Their plan is socialist wealth confiscation.
Cross's ties to Wachovia predate the FUNB merger.

Do you have a list of occupations suitable for Christians or are you just rambling?
Never mind my previous. I don't mean this with the slightest sarcasm or disdain, but please, for not only your own sake, but for the sake of others, seek professional help. You're not well.

I understand she requires a long term contract to the tune of 2.5 million per corporation.
No, I disagree I'm very well. :-) Not happy with a lot of things but very well. Just been reading some interesting books that have colored my writing a bit. Add a nice dose of stress and well sometimes when you look inside the grab bag of your soul you find some trinkets to share.
Thy father who art in heaven hold me close to you tonight,
And do not let your eyes waver in my passing through to the light.
And if my snoring rouses any demons from the depths of their inky rest,
Please grab them by their smoking tails and flay them through their scaly breasts.
Yes I'm just rambling. Is that ok? I just wonder what kind of Christians, which are obviously a majority of the people working in almost any business except maybe prostition (I could be surprised), are working in these industries. I just wonder how they sucessfully reconcile themselves to the flagrant cheating and lying and stealing that is called profit taking?
The government I believe is worse because it embodies the evil of envy and twists what would be charity into nothing more than institutionalized thievery. I know an aweful lot of Christians work in the government, how many file FWA reports when they see the horrible waste and mismanagement that goes on? I bet most don't do a thing and the worst participate and cover up with all the rest.
I'm just trying to speak a little truth. Why don't we hear this truth from the pulpit, Political or otherwise. We hear about more money for educational institutions that never seems to find enough and by golly they'll even give us student loans to make it easy to get in debt rather than pushing for things that would offer alternatives to the costly bastians of liberalism. We hear about more money for a medical system that never seems to find enough and shazam they'll make sure everyone has insurance and pays out the ass by the time they are done. Its always the same story from the rich and powerful whether government or private sector, we on the lower tiers never pay enough for them to have all the wealth they desire for the pittance they offer in return.
