AFAIK the legal name of the protected category is "hispanic surname" NOT "hispanic". that's the loophole.

this name changing business has been going on for some time. I remember a lawsuit 20 years or so ago on this topic - the guy who changed his name won because the category was SURNAME.

Yes... back in the 70's the LAUSD had forced bussing in order to integrate the schools... My roommate in college, a nice Beverly Hills Jewish boy named David Greene, had a sister named Esther Gomez... she had changed her name to a "Spanish Surname" in order to keep from being bussed to a different High School.

I recall a scholarship that went to the "wrong" person because he was 18 and legally changed his name specifically for that purpose. The college sued him and lost. Hah! Roasted in their own PC juices.
