Iran to buy jumbo souvenir from Air France
Sunday, January 29, 2006
LONDON, January 29 (IranMania) - Iran is set to buy the Air France Boeing 747 jumbo that flew revolutionary leader Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini back to Tehran from exile in 1979, a government newspaper said Sunday, according to AFP.
Sanctions imposed by the United States prevent Iran from buying Western aircraft, but the Iran newspaper said the plane was no longer fit to be used for commercial purposes and that the clerical regime only wanted it as a souvenir.
"After contacts with France, Iran is set to buy the plane that carried the founder of the Islamic republic the February 1, 1979, as the symbol of this magnificent day," the newspaper said.
The report did not say if a deal had already been signed, or how much the Islamic republic would pay.
Although Iran's US-backed shah had already fled the country when Khomeini returned from exile in the small French town of Neauphle-le-Chateau, the 747's landing is seen as the true start of the Islamic revolution.
Archive film of the landing of the 747, specially chartered for Khomeini and greeted in Tehran by millions of people, is still regularly shown on Iranian state television.
Ayatollah Khomeini went on to become Iran's supreme leader, and died in 1989.
A source of spare parts.
Let's send Jimmy Carter to Iran as part of the package, after all if it wasn't for Jimmah, the Assahollah would have died from colon-rectal cancer in Paris, instead of in Tehran with the rest of his fellow Islamofascist a**holes.
And in a perfect world, just as Jimmah descends from the 747 with his goofball grin on his face, a Fox News Special Report is broadcast, announcing that it has been revealed that Carter was a special SAVAK agent for the late Shah of Iran's intelligence apparatus during his U.S. Navy days.
Hey, don't worry Jimmah, we'll see if we can find 2 or 3 helicopters capable of making the rescue flight, just meet us at Desert One!
And a dignified funeral procession was held...loved that moment when his body got jostled into the crowd...
That sounds benign
All they need to do is load that plane and make it into US airspace before being intercepted, say at about 36,000 feet somewhere between the DC and NYC.
I think we need the lights shut out from Massachusetts to Virginia for a month or two before we are willing to believe what we are dealing with here.
I believe that's the president's plane.
Wow, thats an SP, very cool
"They handled that boy like a pinata"
-Dennis Miller on the Ayatollah's funeral.
Actually, the VIP planes are 707's.
They do operate a fleet of about 6-8 747's (I believe)
It would be a 747-100. The aircraft would no longer be in service with Air France. Either scrapped or sitting awaiting disposal. Engineless and stripped. It would be in a non-flyable state.
I like the sound of that
If it was flyable it wouldn't get to Iran due to the sanctions.
Well, what may not be flyable at the moment, can be made flyable especially if it's only for making a one-way flight.
If the aircraft is one of the ones derilict/stored in France then it is in bad shape. If the aircraft is going to end up in Iran it isn't going to fly there. It will be shipped in pieces and re-assembled. If its the one in the museum then my bet is that it won't be going anywhere.
Hope they end up getting the wrong airframe. Now that would be funny!
