Well said! It was socialism, not "barbarians" that doomed the Roman Empire.
Also note that it was the end of the Roman Republic, and it's replacement by a series of dictatorial emperors, that hastened the end.

The ultimate protection of a society is the willingness of its citizens to lay down their lives for the protection of their homes, families, and nation.

People who own their own homes, farms, and businesses will fight to defend them against the barbarians. Those who simply consume their welfare allotment are not so motivated
