It would be interesting to see if race/ethnicity skews these numbers.

Well, Ms. Tyre, if boys and girls are so different at such an early age, how do you explain how much better boys did in school than girls prior to the ’70s?

Only the 70s?

Still, I have asked myself the same question and wondered why others seemed not to ask it.

Anyone remember the feminist complaint about the supposed preferential treatment paid to the boys as an explanation why girls underachieved?

The feminists running the public school system turn boys into wusses...boys who act like boys are to be disciplined, medicated and diagnosed with ADD, ADHD, etc. Throw into the mix all of the effeminate boys raised by single mothers and it isn't a surprise that there are problems in adulthood.

Professions are turning into trades...particularly where part-time females (soccer moms) are willing to accept less comp and work 20-30 hours a week. The majority of positions in publishing, real estate, banking, and insurance are filled by females. The majority of all law students are now female...within 5 years, they'll be the majority of practicing lawyers.

Peg Tyre didn't elaborate on the importance of a two parent family because she probably feels that there's only one thing a man is necessary for and modern science has taken the physical presence of the man from that. She's liberated.

Not to be crude, but I have seen a massive "vaginaization" agenda in public schools, starting now at kindergarten levels. There are almost no male school teachers or administrators anymore.
Current stats show that 80% of all kids in grade school prescribed ritilin are boys.
The emphasis is for girls to excel, and boys are supposed to just shutup and behave like robots.
All masculine qualities or male oriented behavior are to be supressed. If boys act like boys, parents are called and told the kid needs to see a psychologist.

Yep, the myth of female superiority is alive and well, and 95% of American men don't have the brass to say a word about it.

>Unfortunately, Tyre chose not to share with her readers that this last statistic is not what America is seeing at its finest universities and colleges. According to the College Board website, only two of the top ten academic schools in the nation, as ranked by U.S. News & World Report, have more female students than males. By contrast, six schools have more men, and two are 50-50. Also, America’s two finest technological institutions, M.I.T. and Cal-Tech, have male-dominated admission rates of 58 and 71 percent respectively. I guess such facts were unimportant to Tyre. <

Talk about lying with statistics. The majority of the top ten schools are private and not subject to admission fairness. They can make their freshmen classes meat any demographic they desire.Women at one major eastern university threatened to start a diversity suit because the schools did not have enough men.

20 years ago MIT and Cal Tech would have been 90% male.Ga.Tech where the men are men and the girls are to has become more femanized also.20 years ago they borrowed chearleaders and twirlers from the local nursing school.

I'm proud of the boys. They are fine. We have a grandson and nephews and they are all wonderful. To hell with those who bash boys and men. They are the insecure individuals.

If Tyre and/or Newsweak's editors deleted mention of Sommer's book then the simple conclusion is that they don't want people to read it.
