This writer must be 12 years old.

HE has NO perspective on what Congress was like with LBJ in Oval Office, or Tip O'Neal etc etc etc.

I guess it's only non-partisan if the Democrats get their way?

if this was a demorat nomination the 58-42 vote would be hailed as a non-partisan vote by the moderate republicans

Makes it sound like the victory is tainted. But the reality is that this was partisan in that for the first time, the minority party voted essentially unanimously against a perfectly qualified, minimally-controversial nominee.
