Another poster stated that most graduates of this high school were working in cubicles or small officers and were terrified of middle managers. High intelligence is not always a measure of business success. I doubt this crop of students will do any better.

And all the posters wailing "Oh how awful, civilization is coming to end", are going to be in for a rude shock 15-20 years down the road, when their kids are applying to these kids for jobs.

15-20 years down the road, a significant percentage of these are going to be dead or on a whole pharmacy's worth of drugs because of the STDs they caught, unfortunately.

Economic prosperity is not peace, and lack of morals will destroy our nation:

I love Xavier and it was my top choice all through 7th grade and into 8th grade. Excellent school and not far from my home (I grew up downtown, Prince/W Broadway, and I always lived in that neighborhood).

Both my brothers attended Xavier: by then the ROTC program was mandatory for like the first semester, I think, and then optional after that. Neither brother continued with it but I know many people who did.

In the 80s, I was a teen and always made it my business to mosey on over to Xavier's Sunday open house/tour for prospective students. The PTA would come out in force in the gym and have free cakes, cupcakes, pastries, pies, etc for the 'after tour.' I would sneak away from my tour group and just head for the gym for the free snacks! ;-)

Like I said, Regishaters can take some satisfaction in knowing that most of its graduates are lawyers and doctors who hate their jobs, are weary of their (good or bad) wives, owe a fortune on their credit cards and loans, or work in cubicles in dead-end jobs wondering what happened to all their potential.

At least, that's what I hear from the stories at reunion nights. :-)

These kids are headed for schools like Harvard, MIT, etc., and into hard science majors at those schools -- not the multi-culti fluff that many of those schools offer (though MIT doesn't). There's no way they're going to be "terrified of middle managers". They're going to emerge from college and grad school as the people middle managers are terrified of losing, or of not being able to afford to hire in the first place. In the high-tech world, lots of people work in small offices or cubicles while earning tons of money and wielding lots of power. They'll eventually get bigger offices, but they're likely to get lavish Manhattan co-ops and Greenwich mansions first.

I have a nephew in his early 30s who graduated from MIT. He toyed with the idea of going to medical school, and while he was toying, he set up a tutoring company. It's making so much money he has trouble figuring out what to do with it all. He's bought several commercial and residential real estate properties as investments, and recently bought a state-of-the-art small plane for himself (equipped with a parachute http://www.popularmechanics.com/science/aviation/1280551.html?page=2&c=y ). Middle managers pay his company to get their kids heads sharpened up enough to get into decent colleges.

Now Stuyvesant resembles Caligula's banquet hall.

Stuy students impressed me as self important, and to a large extent self indulgent, twits back in the 1980s. Ah, I was quite the precocious young teen!!! Hard to please, even then! ;-)

I enjoyed Xavier although the commute from Massapequa on the 6:52 (after walking a mile to the station) was a bitch. The Jesuits taught us how to think if nothing else. The whole military thing fell apart in the late sixties because of Viet Nam. After that it became optional.
