Every year of my presidency, we've reduced the growth of non-security discretionary spending, and last year you passed bills that cut this spending.

So, these charts are not true?

key words are non-security discretionary spending, and in fact it is the truth but non-discretionary and defense spending has increased.

I did a big double-take when I heard President Bush say that. I was thinking, "Is he serious?"

I bet he bought into base-line budgeting where slower growth equals a "cut."

Yes, they are a statistical form of lying. The President is correct, the Losetarian Party is lying.

I sorry but just screaming a lie over and over will not suddenly make your data factual. The attempt to obfuscate by claiming your data does NOT include Defense Spending does NOT lend you any credibility. If you are willing to mislead on that fact, what else are you misrepresenting?

The charts are true. Notice the president said "non-security discretionary spending", instead of non-defense discretionary spending. It is because he can fit things like health care spending and farm subsidies under "security".

The President has grown the size of government like no other President since LBJ.

I listened with pride as an American in a free land. Then just as suddenly, the President announced initiative after initiative that would cost more of our cha-ching.

And the kicker for me was MORE MONEY TO PUBLIC SCHOOLS for education. U-Boat Teddy's education budget wasn't enough money. Seems our children are falling behind--how can that be? DAMN! Better send more money.

BTW, my SIL and # of friends taught in Texas, home of Bush's education initiative. This so-called "no child left behind" act should be renamed "giving kids answers for the state exams the entire year, instead of actually teaching" act. Teachers in the districts in which family and friends taught are told to focus on state scores rather than actually teaching. That will propel the US to the top of the world economy for sure. Look out Singapore!

Mr. President, if I may, if we are to improve our math and science skills we have to overhaul public schools, get down and dirty with the NEA Nazis, and clean out the useless and counter-productive Dept of Ed..

We must bring back the tried and true classical approach to education. The type of education found at the private schools the well-heeled politicians and some NEA leaders send their children to attend.
