U.S. Troops Fire Warning Shots On Canadian Diplomats In Iraq

The U.S. military reports no casualties in a shooting incident Wednesday involving Canadians inside the fortified Green Zone in Baghdad.

It happened when a Canadian diplomatic vehicle failed to obey orders to stop.

The Canadian Embassy in neighboring Jordan said there were four diplomats in the vehicle, including Canada's top official in Iraq. The embassy said Canadian and American authorities are investigating.

A U.S. military spokesman said U.S. soldiers fired warning rounds at the front of what he identifies as a "convoy."

The Green Zone in downtown Baghdad is home to the Iraqi government and numerous foreign missions including the U.S. Embassy. Canada does not have an embassy in Iraq but plans to open one this year.

The Dims and MSM should be praising our firing on the diplomats for not stopping. After all, "nobody, not even the President, is above the law".

Don't these BOZOs understand that running a checkpoint can result in sudden and severe lead poisoning. How stupid can you be?

This was actually a miss as US Soldiers do not fire warning shots. These soldiers need to visit the range.

Exactly, shoot first - apologize later would be my motto.

What part of 'check point - you must stop or be shot' is so hard to understand?

Yes, we do fire warning shots, prior to ramping up, the escalation of force. ( if the situation permits)

Given the sympathies of the Canadians, what they did was justified.

Could have been worse: they could have been Italian "journalists."

Sounds like the Canadian diplomats suffer from The Hildebeast disease. "We can't be bothered with these pesky people or their policies, they're just the little people, drive on."

Yes, as I recall, warning shots were fired at the Italian "journalist" - or at any rate, at the car with her and the Italian personnel in charge of getting her worthless hide out of Iraq - and they ran the checkpoint anyway. Unfortunately, Signorina "Journalist" was the one who survived.

Of course there is always the not so remote possibility that these Canadian "diplomats" were taking a cue from their occult allies and attempting to become media martyrs at the hands of the western devils and drive another political wedge between the US and Canada as the new Canadian conservative government begins to get political traction and begins to redefine their relationship to the United States.

Unless they were the type that really believed they were going to get the 72 virgins (who did not look like Helen Thomas), I would doubt that they wanted to be martyrs. They probably just wanted to continue as self-righteous liberal fools.

Typically, warning shots are used as a ramp procedure to get some knotheads' attention, if they are not heeding any of the signals that are given, such as hand, verbal or something thrown. But, if you do not have the time,or feel that you are threatened, we are authorized to take what ever means nessesary to prevent harm to ourselves, coalition forces,US property, or our buddies.

Lee

This must be a new policy. I was always told we didn't do that.

Probably not always, but there were a few shootings where the people in the car turned out not to be armed and the media screamed brutality, so I would imagine the policy was in response to that.

BTW, the Vietcong used to rig up children to explode and send them running to the gates, knowing that American soldiers wouldn't want to kill a child. The Palestinians send bomb-laden pregnant women through checkpoints (I believe one of them killed several soldiers). Letting people through if they won't stop is not a good idea, but I think the policy was changed in response to the "international press."

Glad to hear it. After that Italian episode - and I was sorry about their security guy, who probably was acting on confused directions anyway, knowing the Italians - I was afraid that we were going to be pressured into a policy that was going to be very risky for us.

The current policy as you have described it seems reasonable to me, and permits some discretion but enables the protection of our guys. Which is, whether the Canadian "diplomats" like it or not, our priority.

Not oops,

TYPICAL diplomat arrogance.

"DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM?!!!" syndrome.

These diplomates think they have a magic aura of "rules are for other people" that all can see.

It is compounded by the fact they are canadian.
