Estrich: A Professor of Eminent Domain
Oregon Magazine ^ | February 1, 2006 | Larry Leonard

Posted on 02/01/2006 7:00:29 PM PST by WaterDragon

It happened late in January on the FOX network's Hannity and Colmes program, with the pretty blonde, Estrich, in her abrasive voice subbing for the absent abrasive Colmes. The subject was eminent domain, a process by which a government "condemns" private property and takes it for "public" use. Until recently, I had never seen it used for any other purpose than to make way for a road or a public development of some kind. A park, a facility to keep equipment, like fire trucks, in a central location. A place to put a school. Those sorts of things.

Then, the U.S. Supreme Court allowed an east coast community to take private homes by this process, and turn the land over to equally private contractors who promised to build large scale dwellings, like hotels or condos. This would raise the value of the land, thus increasing tax revenues to the municipality. Conservatives across the nation were shocked when the court did it. They are incensed to this day. Stupid legal decisions like this are why they backed Thomas for the big court, and now the two new guys.....

Great description of her voice. It's distinctive.

Best description came here on FR months and months ago (by who? I don't remember): She sounds like Harvey Fierstein doing an impression of Carol Channing.

Sadly, that's not far off the mark.

"Great description of her voice. It's distinctive."

Every time I hear her voice, it reminds me of an elderly Aunt of mine who smoked two packs of Chesterfields a day....

Naw, no way, it's a double like the current "Paul McCartney", since the original one passed away, when was it, 1969?

1. I'm sorry, but no amount of plastic surgery is going to reconcile me to that phrase.

2. And her voice still sounds like someone poured marbles into a blender and hit Frappe.

I agree with both comments - but - it is what comes out of her mouth - the content and the grating noise - that absolutely turns me off.

Oh and the same goes for hillary clinton but instead of grating sound, hillary clinton screeches. But I will have to add each have the ugliest expression on their face. I know every freeper has seen the picture taken last night of hillary clinton. How can anyone screw up their face and be so ugly - and the dems have two of them. It must be the hate that corrodes ---- forget what I've said you two are correct!!!

But....but....but.....Susan is one of the socialists that conservatives like to love, isn't she?

Along with those other cuddly socialists like Camille Paglia, Christopher Hitchens and Joseph Lieberman.

These charming little Orwellian piglets right out of "Animal Farm" root up conservative truffles every once in a while and the Right goes ga-ga over them.

Friends of my enemies are my enemies.

Shouldn't all that money for the face-lift have gone to starving Ethiopians or an American Indian college fund or something?

And now you know why liberals, who believe in private property only if it's theirs, are traditionally unhappy with conservative judges. Conservative judges limit the amount of your money and property liberal politicians can grab.

Kindly do not insult Ms. Bacall like that.
She does not have that gravel-squeaky harshness that is unique to Ms. Estrich.
