It's pretty obvious that the more industrialized and capitalized an economy is, the cleaner it is. These people are too blinded by ideaology to see their noses.

You said it. I remember a show on TV highlighting the incredible amount of air pollution alone in some eastern European cities under communist rule.

You had children's wards full up with kids suffering with anything from severe asthma to early stage emphysema. Air sampling filters atop some city buildings were totally black after as short a time as 1 week. The scientist running them was from the USA and maintained the same equipment in the LA area of California. He said he never saw anything that bad in his life. His samples in LA were marginal by comparison. The rivers were also like open cesspools in areas.
