She has looked like that ever since I can remember her from the beginning. Wow.

I'm surprised at how much weight Justices Scalia and Thomas both have put on. I hope they are both very healthy.

Do you think she dyes her hair?

"We will gain seats in 2006."

That's counter to the conventional wisdom. Course that would be reason enough to agree with you, given what we know about who manufactures "conventional wisdom."

But in addition, I think there is a rythm to political campaigns and elections. The person/party who looks unbeatable 10-12 months before an election is often left in the dust well before the election actually takes place. They simply peak too soon, and in our environment of "what's the next big thing" the media (even sympathetic media) get tired of the person and move on. Call it MSM ADD. All Fall the Dems and their MSM allies were whaling on W and it looked like he was on the ropes.

And yet, the current's starting to move in the other direction. Good SOTU address, continuing good news in Iraq, Euros starting to see the light, everyone waking up to the Iranian threat, and Dems never missing an opportunity to remind the American people that they can't be trusted with our defense.

On top of that, the last 2-3 years have seen a cycle where Bush is low in the late Fall/Winter, and makes a recovery in the Spring and Summer (just in time for the next election).

If I was a conspiracy theorist, I'd claim W was rope-a-doping last Fall knowing he'd put the full-court press on in the Feb/Mar timeframe. The Dems may be allowing themselves to be set up for a crushing loss in November.

This Laura (Alito) is quite pretty. The legs look like that 100 yard butterfly event is her good friend.

;-)

Thanks so much for posting these photos. I am so happy for Justice Alito and all that he has accomplished. Does anyone know if his sister and Mom were able to attend the ceremony?

Well, Scalia was always a bit over-weighted, but Thomas is the one who seems to be adding pounds rapidly. They still look waaaaaay better than the liberal team. Both Souter and Ginsburg seem very ill to me. I heard Buzzie had a colon cancer, but what's with Souter? Yasser Arafat disease?

But Justice Souter looks AWFUL! I wonder if he is not well or just aging very fast and not at all well.

I agree. I guess being a traitor to your country takes its toll. Just look at Bill Clinton.

This reminds me of something my pastor said one time. "If you want to know what sin does to a person, just look at an old sinner."

Scalia and Thomas look jovial and healthy, but they (or at least Scalia) could stand to lose a few pounds. I would like him to be on the bench for a long time to come if possible.

Ginsburg looks half-dead in that one middle picture w/Justice Thomas. Seriously, she doesn't look well.

Something I observed during the SOTU the other night. The Justices joined applause in every occasion I caught when the applause had to do with the WOT, Liberty, Freedom, etc. They sat stoically and quiet on all matters of domestic politics.

I has never noticed that before. Tradition? Decorum?

Re: your comment about Souter and Ginsburg looking ill. I agree with you on Souter. In photos (post 55 and 63), Souter looks horrid and terribly white and pasty. I'm not an MD nor did I stay in a Holiday Inn last evening, but I have to wonder what is the state of his circulatory system? As for Ginsberg, in those pictures, she at least had some color or more of it than Souter. Yes, I'd heard she had severe stomach problems. Not sure if it is the big C.
