Thinking back to my college days, I can't imagine what I would have used a gun for. I can't imagine what harm it would do either, so...
My son was allowed to have long guns at his college, a private, liberal arts school in Virginia. They were even allowed to deer hunt on campus, if I remember correctly. He had to notify the school and he had a gun locker. No big deal, really.
Heck, my High School and the first College I attended ISSUED 'guns' to every student, and we would be in HUGE trouble if we didn't have them either securely in our hands or locked in our personal lockers.
And the only serious injuries we ever had occured on the athletic fields and one accidental stabbing by two good friends horseplaying with a pocket knife.
'Course the fact that they were Military Acadamies might have had something to do with it. ;-)
'Tain't the presence of guns on campuses that causes problems.... It is the lack of discipline.
I'm all for RKBA, but as I sat in the foyer of my frat house one afternoon in 1982, a bullet came through the ceiling and missed me by a couple of feet. Some dumbass had been playing around with a .38 in his room upstairs and it went off. So I know from personal experience that some people simply aren't responsible enough to carry, especially at that age. I'd be in favor of a college requiring a CCW permit--or even requiring some kind of university evaluation beyond that--before allowing a student to have a weapon on campus.
This is hilarious. First AFRO figures out we freeped their silly poll, now these people. I'd say word is out that we are going to hit any silly online polls these 'newsoutlets' put up. LOL!
I'm for freedom, but...
I'm for religion, but...
I'm for fill in the blank, but...
Sorta like the nazi rule, first but looses.
It's also true that 47.2% of all statistics are made up on the spot.
But did anyone catch this idiot with a complete disconnect from reality?
I do not think that ANY student (high school and/or college) should be eligible to get a permit to carry a gun!
There are somethings that are or should be reserved for adults. -- brownark
So, no adults go to college? Gee - most public universities I know have large and growing "non-traditional" student populations - students who are beyond the traditional age of college students. I didn't know that those under the age of 18 could get a conealed-carry permit (isn't it at least 21 in most states with CCP?).
I refuse to accept your call for "drawing a line" and hindering my liberty just because some moron might not be able to handle the responsibilities inherent in wielding arms.
Private Institutions? The VAST majority of colleges and universities are PUBLIC institutions.
Also, the names given on the paper's message board are not FR nicks.
Another "fake but accurate" report from the media!
Your ibnformation is accurate! There arte no Frepers by those scren names, and no stories related to this.
Jim, to me this is libel. Your opinion?
So, penalize the jerk with the poor trigger and muzzle discipline. Don't penalize others that had nothing to do with the incident.

I'm all for your right to free speech but not on a college campus, etc.. Your reponse sounds horribly leftist...
According to natural law, public colleges should no more ban guns than they should ban speech. Private colleges can ban whatever they want. If you don't like their rules, don't go.
The lines were drawn by the Founding Fathers and the USSC.
Are you saying that an American adult's right protected by the Second Amendment should be denied?
You mean all 15 of them? - That would sure sway the results.
"I do not think that ANY student (high school and/or college) should be eligible to get a permit to carry a gun! "
Well, when college students stop being the target of violent crimes maybe they might want to give up carrying weapons.
"How many of us want our kids going to a college kegger before some yahoo pulls out a gun and says: "Hey, dudes! Watch this!"
"
Instead of banning self-defense, how about banning "keggers"?? College is for young-adults seeking an education, not immature frat boys.
