LIVE THREAD: SJC hearing on the NSA surveilance program - C-span 1; 9:30 am EST

Posted on 02/06/2006 6:08:53 AM PST by ken5050

Good Monday morning, once again, fellow political jinkies. The NFL season may be over, but the political season inside the Beltway is 24/7/365. So join us, if you can, as those wacky Dems on the Senate Judiciary committee reprise their pitiful efforts to once again smear President Bush and score political points..

"You're going to love this --- during the proceedings today, Biden called data mining "unscrupulous". Maybe he is a little worried."

you are right..I do LOVE IT...lol. Good to see the dems starting to sweat, although I think Rockefeller has been worried about this for quite sometime now.

Keep up the good work..........Maybe a lot more people will know about this travesty of justice. I would love to see all the Conservative Talk Shows bring this up, and pound it home. I will bet my favorite Ponderosa Lemon tree that Chuckie will cry crocodile tears if people try to question why she was not fired, or held the least bit accountable. I am sure he will accuse them of picking on his little woman to get at him. Yeah Right. People that live in glass houses..........

Wait, wait, wait...

I heard the "experts" say that the surveillance was to STOP attacks...not for prosecution.

Your post was going in a whole different direction than I was thinking...NOW I have whiplash!! LOL

Re: what you posted...I will have to think on that a get back with you.

BUT, I really got the impression that he seemed SHOCKED that this kind of surveillance was being used under the AUMF. ...

That's an accurate impression. He and a number of other Senators (Sessions too, IIRC) have said that it is risk for the President to construe a Congressional Act "too far out." It creates an unhealthy tension.

As for the progeam being "domestic", I think all agree that one end of the monitored conversation is domestic. If both ends are on foreign soil, the issue evaporates.

I think these guys like to talk "lawyerese" so that they will impress us.

It's shorthand, and linguistic convenience for them.

Kohl is up. His claim to fame is he isn't the dumbest member in the Senate. There's too much competition for that title!

Not that it puts coherent thought functions in your brain, Herb Kohl was elected to the Senate in 1988 and re-elected to a third six-year term in 2000. Kohl was born and raised in Milwaukee, where he attended public school. He earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1956 and a master's degree in business administration from Harvard University in 1958. Kohl served in the Army Reserve from 1958 to 1964.

Before coming to the Senate, Kohl helped build his family-owned business, Kohl's grocery and department stores. He served as President from 1970 through the sale of the corporation in 1979. In 1985 he bought the Milwaukee Bucks to ensure the basketball team remained in Milwaukee and is recognized as an avid sportsman. ">but Kohl is a gazillionaire .. every heard of Kohl's department stores?

From Wikipedia - whose content I do not use as the be all/end all source of reliably factual data.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Before his election to the Senate, Kohl helped build his family-owned business, Kohl's grocery and department stores. He served as President from 1970 through the sale of the corporation in 1979. In 1985 he bought the Milwaukee Bucks NBA team to ensure the basketball team remained in Milwaukee and is recognized as an avid sportsman.
Kohl is one of the nation's wealthiest politicians. Fairly conservative estimates put his wealth at $111 million, while he could be worth more than $250 million. This has inspired his use of the catchphrase "Nobody's Senator but yours" on campaign commercials, implying that he is immune to bribery, whereas other Senators may not be."
No attack was every stopped by listening. At some point, force has to be applied.
That Brooklyn Bridge guy was arrested and tried in a criminal court. No army involved. But "run it with the military" as they say, THIS IS WAR!
I e-mailed Rep. Curt Weldon (Able Danger) to let him know about Biden's comment.
But if you're mining data, then you probably already know that.  :)
I was just facetiously wondering if Gonzales, Roberts and Alito took some xanax or something before going before these idiots. I know I couldn't have kept my cool. I'd have been in a fist fight before it was over.
You are right...I wasn't thinking...
Right now...Mara Liasson on Fox is quoting all of the GOP members as to why Bush is wrong...
I just think that President Bush needs to just stick with the constitutional arguement...with Bush as CIC...
Honestly, samantha, thank you for posting that info... I had never heard about it. I'm a hunter .. when I get a bug going, I'm on the prowl. It is a shameful situation .. and where's an executive decision by Bloomberg here? I'd LOVE to see Schumer's family/wife scrutinized (and dragged through the mud for a bit) like the Rats love to do with the Pubbies and the MSM gleefully print.
This has been their strategy for many years and C-span lets them get away with it, That is why I do not watch c-span anymore and have not since they started that crap. They have leaned very left for all the years of the Bush Administration and even before that. We used to need Cspan for Newt's rise to fame with special orders when the Dirty Dems were in charge, but not any longer, they have shot themselves in the foot too many times. The Bloggers are their replacement. The New Media can handle it all.
However, it's been discovered that Weinshall presided over a culture of incompetence, lax supervision and sheer laziness that led to a mass confusion during the subsequent investigation about where the members of the Ferry's crew were when the ship crashed into the side of a dock.
It's obvious this woman is out of her league expecting a nice cushy job without scrutiny.
When Bloomberg instituted a 311 hot line for public complaints, it enabled city officials to re-examine how city agencies carried out their jobs. When pothole complaints started pouring into 311 after a harsh winter, good old Iris Weinshall dispatched an extra 150 workers to pothole duty, and the backlog of complaints dropped to 975 from 3,000. I can almost guarantee without 311 she'd be sitting behind her desk with her feet up.
The only possible match so far(Richard Fleischer) is a Political Science professor from Fordham University. Not sure I will waste much time on the nut, as I suspect his 5 seconds of fame are over....lol
I will give him 2 cents to get the hell out of Washington and Wisconsin and move to where he lives anyway in Colorado. I read a long time ago that he usually phones it in from Colorado. He should be up for re-election this year and maybe that is why he is showing his face again and not phoning it in, he really seems to be useless,
I would love this to really hit the fan against Schumer. His wife is no innocent babe like Little Jack Roberts during the Supreme Court hearing. weinshall was responsible for a lot of lives and she did not do her job. One reason is that she was not qualified, and it angers me that she got away with this and the other people that were less guilty are gone or in jail. That dirty rotten SOB Schumer is the first one to fanatically push for punishment for over pricing a frigging box of Cheerios, but if wifey is involved, bury it.
