VMWare rocks. I've been using the workstation version of it for various things since version 3.0, and it is definitely the best in its class. I think its cool that they are freeing (beer) their GSX product, because it will make it easier for us to evaluate it for projects, which will necessitate a move to ESX when we go to production.
I really wish they'd come down a bit on the workstation software though. I've been using the workstation software to build mindshare in our company, but at $300 a pop, it's a hard sell. Our developers and testers love it though. We're rolling out ESX for windows servers because the tools available with ESX are the best thing since sliced bread. Moving a virtual server from one system to another at the click of a button while it is still being used is some amazing tech.
