In the article, the author of the pictures, who is quite famous in Germany, is quoted as saying: "I wish Kofi Annan had said that we're in the West here, and we think differently about these things, and it's going to stay that way."

I've given up on tolerance. I don't even care anymore if Muslims are "extremists" or not. They're all going to have to get the hell out of here, now. Enough is enough.

I agree with you.
Maybe it is time to start leaving a burnt koran here or there and let everyone see what the "Religion of Peace" really looks like.

What would happen if we started leaving copies of the Islamic Funnies here and there? I'd hate to have my grocery store burned down. Maybe we could post the funnies at the boarder the riots could keep the illegals out.

a burnt koran

That's what I call an excellent alternative energy source.

Is there a guiness record for the maximum number of Korans burning at once ?

I completely agree.

It may not be fair to all of them, but that is an issue they can resolve amongst themselves.

On some other continent.

"Too bad the Free press in the USA has no kahunas"

To think, after all our letters-to-the-editor & protests & boycotts... all we had to do was throw molotovs at the NYTs. Who knew?

The online poll at FAZ has these results:

1) Press Freedom = 58%

2) Don't insult any religion = 25%

3) Shouldn't draw Mohammed = 10%

4) This was a provocation (and I want to kill, kill)! = 7%

This means that 1 in 15 people here in Germany consider all this a provocation to them...

Wish the toons were more indicative of the violence Islam preaches. Otherwise, good show!

They aren't rioting because of cartoons.

They didn't riot because of NewsWeek printing the false statement we flushed Korans.

They didn't riot in Paris because police were at fault.

All excuses to drum up rioting by those that want an Intifada against Western Culture.

My response in how to deal with it stands. If they want to pretend this is about cartoons, print and re-print these cartoons. Then start drawing cartoons depicting the actual motive for the riots isn't "disrespect" to their "great prophet" but a desire to annihilate the rest of us that don't think he was so hot in his zest to conquer the whole world.

You know, there are Muslims that don't want to be the next coming of Hitler. In Afgahnistan, in Iraq, etc... These others are simply scared to death that the idea of "democracy" is catching on and want to stop it in the bud by making this a "religious war".

Now, yeah, in a sense I agree it is a religious war. We have religious extremists that certainly believe so, which is why they target specifically America and Isreal. Christians and Jews. It's a war between the principles of Islam that have birthed repressed tyrannical regimes, and the principles of Christianity and Judaism that birthed freer nations such as America, Israel, even Europe before the stranglehold of socialism.

But where I disagree is that it's a war between Muslims and Christians. It isn't. We're proving that in Afghanistan, in Iraq, etc...

Basically, and it's what I've always said, we're trying to "reform" Islam to which the fanatics would say we're trying to "corrupt" Islam. Well, yes, they are right. Because Islam practiced fundamentally reflects the views of Osama bin Ladin. I know, everyone gets so upset when the Prez calls it a religion of peace, which maybe he believes or maybe he doesn't, I don't know. All I KNOW is that it is to our benefit to convince those that practice Islam that is a "religion of Peace". To liberalize the doctrine so that it is viwed symbolically rather then literally.

The alternative is to just come out and tell billions of people their religion is false. That isn't going to work and plays into the fanatics hands.

Really, I don't know how successful this attempt to "reform" Isalm is going to be, but I do know that a free Government run of, by, for the people can be a powerful incentive to swing Muslims toward liberalization of their doctrine rather than an embrace of fundamentalist doctrine that breeds death and oppression.

Evidently thse fanactics do as well, which is why they've orchestrated a false outrage over dated cartoons.

WHY AREN'T MAJOR US PAPERS PRINTING MUHAMMAD CARTOONS? It's pathetic that I have to sit here in NYC reading on the Internet about newspapers in Denmark, France, Germany, etc. standing their ground and printing these pictures, but I can't find a single one in a major newspaper here!

"This means that 1 in 15 people here in Germany consider all this a provocation to them..."

It's an online poll, which means strictly that 1 in 15 votes submitted are for that particular choice. Set up a perl script and a rotating list of open proxies and you could have that option at 99% in a few hours. You don't have to be from Germany to vote in that poll; you don't even have to be a real person.
