I thought that when Jimmy Carter created the Department of Education the idea was for it to be a giant money laundering operation for the Democrat Party. Why wouldn't the Republicans get rid of it now that they have the House, Senate, and White House? It makes no sense to keep it.

(( ping ))

I know that you are pretty astute when it comes to matters of education so can you fill me in on exactly, precisely WHAT the "Department of Education" DOES with $50+ billion every year? Any specifics would be greatly appreciated - - especially how much of that money (if any) actually finds its way to real live schools with classrooms and real live students. Thanks.

Don't tell the libs those numbers - they won't believe them anyway.

The fact of the matter is - every time one of the liberal pet projects has it's INCREASE in funding cut (not the actual total funding), then they call it a budget cut.

Folks- a program's funding isn't cut when its budget GROWS.

Here's a link to the US Dept of Ed Budget Tables.

I appreciate your kind words, Lancey Howard, but I am no expert on how the federal govt allocates education money. If you study those tables, maybe you could find one that makes sense, and teach us all something! :)

I agree. Carter started the Dept. of Energy too. Additionally, as I have ranted a dozen times here, I'd sh!t-can ALL of these useless departments except Defence, and make Homeland Security a subset of DoD.

The Federal government should be run like a business instead of a welfare system.
