I guess she'd sue the car company if another car hit her and the airbag inflated and killed her baby.
I hope they make her watch videos (without music) of the injuries and deaths to children who were not properly restrained.

The great irony is that the Million Mom March rep for our area didn't buckle her kids.

"Of course roads weren't as crowded back then but please MYOB!!!"

Are you kidding? I would never drive with my baby on my lap. At least here in Texas (world's worst drivers), that's asking for a tragedy. I doubt LA drivers are much more alert. Especially with infants on their laps.

You didn't have the same quantity of drivers on the road, increasing chances of accidents.

Also no airbags back then; if she tags that front bumper, the bag cover on the steering wheel is going to blast off and do some damage to the infant, and an infants skull is stil not completely formed for months, and it is much softer than an adults.

I drove on my dads lap in his car at an ealry age but on private property.

She is stupid, period.

Look on the bright side.

At least she didn't leave the baby home with a nanny. ;^)

That's a no-no in California, whose law says kids "must be secured in an appropriate child-passenger restraint [a safety or booster seat] until they are at least 6 years old or weigh at least 60 pounds."

Haven't you seen the Bulwinkle movie from a few years ago? "Celebrities are special and the regular rules don't apply!"

As you point out, the airbags are more dangerous than the fender bender to any child sitting in the front seat.

I've been on my dad's lap in cars, trucks, boats, cranes, bulldozers, loaders, tractors, combines, etc, etc.

He quit letting me do it when I hit 30 or so, but I lived through it all, nonetheless.

About the airbags... where I live, kids can't ride up front if there is a passenger-side airbag, until the age of twelve. My eight-year-old desperately wants to... but I truly think the punch that the airbag could deliver would kill him... never mind a newborn.

IMHO the state would be well advised to take the kid into custody. Childrens Protective Services needs to be brought in.

Yeah, but if there's an accident she'll sue the other driver and Lincoln for making an unsafe vehicle.

We all survived things as kids we should not subject our own kids to, now that a) we've grown up and are smarter, and b) technology and the world have changed.

Therefore, skip it, people: I mean that tired fallacy: "I ran with scissors, and look at me, so all kids should run with scissors".

A 5 mile an hour bumper thump, the airbag goes off, and her child could easily be killed or paralyzed.

Money and fame does not make you qualified to reproduce.

It's not like she dangled her kid over a balcony.

The poor thing is doomed anyway. I hear its dad was marching him (4 mo. old BOY) to get his ear's pierced until Spears had her bodyguard stop him. My marriage would be quite different if my wife had a bodyguard that could order me around.

Imho seat belt laws and helmet laws and the California requirement for three different sizes of infant car seat are what needs to be 'brought in'. FReeper's defense of nanny-statism is as disgusting as y'alls envy and cowardly attacks on this woman.

One of the few things that still gets my blood boiling are these idiots who do not use car seats.

My favorite is when the 2yr old is standing up in the back seat looking over the trunk at me.

That, and preteen kids riding in open pickup trucks at 75mph down the interstate are always eye opening.

Lets put it this way she does not need to worry about brain damage much. Not much there to damage.
