I was always scared about accidentally stumbling into the turf of the Jackson Whites.

Is that sarcasm or is that true? I've heard of them, but know less about them than I do the Melungeons.

It's partially true. I was never terrified of stumbling onto the turf of the Jackson Whites, because I was in nyc and they were close but quite a hike away.

The Jackson Whites are real, best as I can tell. A lot of the more lurid stuff about them is just urban legend and people being fearful of such an insular, guarded people.

The rampant inbreeding, though, has caused its share of physical and even mental problems for members of that community.

Weird group of people. Best as i know, they don't actually bother anyone. A classic case of really wanting to be left alone.
