ATLANTA -- Chicago TV news anchor Marion Brooks testified Wednesday that former Atlanta Mayor Bill Campbell always carried plenty of cash while the two enjoyed a romantic relationship.
Prosecutors at the federal corruption trial allege that Brooks, 39, went on frequent trips with the mayor between 1996 and 2000, including a Paris getaway. Campbell was married at the time.
The prosecution wants to convince the jury that Campbell, 52, paid for the rendezvous with bribe money from city contractors.
Asked on the stand if Campbell ever used a credit card for hotel rooms and other expenses, Brooks said: ''He always had cash.''
Brooks anchors the 4:30 and 5 p.m. weekday newscasts on NBC-owned WMAQ-Channel 5. Before joining Channel 5 in 1998, Brooks was an anchor and reporter at ABC affiliate WSB-TV in Atlanta. Their affair began while she was anchoring there and he was mayor.

"Marion" for guys, "Marian" for girls, at least in theory; in fact, "Marion" can now be either but is more likely to be female. On the bright side, there are no guys named "Marian," unless they're pre-op.

Your website seems to be politically insensitive, and designed to drive liberals totally mad. I love your cover picture and saw it in a museum somewhere, but can't remember where (it's been years!) Mr. Campbell is such a fetching fellow that the anchorgirlee couldn't get enough of him. Trips to Paris, Vegas, San Francisco, my oh my, and him being married and all that! I'd love to hear her explanation of all that to her husband...now that might be a really good book to read...and then maybe she can explain to her baby in a few years why mommy was a whore many years ago, but now she's a democrat. If the kid is smart, it will know there ain't much difference in the two.
He used to be my 2nd District City councilman back in the 70s . . . we knew he was crooked then, too.
