U.S. journalist Jill Carroll has appeared in a video aired on a private Kuwaiti TV channel appealing for her supporters to do whatever her Iraqi kidnappers want to secure her release.

She is a civilian who went there of her own free will, but she was kidnapped, and is right now being treated extremely badly. But this should not stop us from standing up to the fundamentalists. It is sad that she may lose her life, but if we succomb to the terrorist demands then we are finished.
Agree completely. How many women were already released? I know our guys said they were going to do it anyway but it sure looked fishy. Carroll needs to acknowledge what has already been done and stop asking. I don't believe they are forcing her either.
Tape #27:
"I really, really, really mean it this time, they are going to kill me if the US doesn't pull out of Iraq and convert to the peaceful religion of Islam!"
I don't see any reason for your to face the Viking Kitties for expressing suspicions that she's (turned?) a collaborator.
I don't think so either. They took her against her will.
Didn't she convert as a Muslim before she went to Iraq?
I happen to agree with you. When a leftist journalist goes over there, I wonder how they get their stories. The terrorists are not stupid.
I have this nagging skepticism too..really torn between fear and sympathy for this woman and an ungallant feeling of doubt as well..
Her words must be for mideast consumption, only.
Cindy-lite?
I doubt her kidnapping was staged but she is certainly an excellent candidate for the Stockholm Syndrome. Remember Pattie Hearst?
Nick Berg?
Evidence? Anything in her past other than the name of the college she attended?
"I am here. I am fine. Please just do whatever they want, give them whatever they want as quickly as possible," Carroll says.
Hey, Jill, how about never? is that quick enough for ya?
Whether we pay or not, she's as good as dead. Why???
First of all, isnt this the 3rd or 4th final offer? At some point in time, these terrorist (and the terror power brokers that control them) will need to "off" her in order to retain some measure of seriousness. If people start treating this situation as a hoax, the terrorist will need to save face. Of course they will film her beheading so that they can use it to sway more liberals into cowering in fear.
You might be right. I am thinking that if she doesn't come through for them, they might get rid of her. I still won't feel sorry for her though. My compassion and support goes to our troops and all those who support the war on terror, not to those who I believe undermine it like Jill did in her reporting.
The callousness about Jill Carroll by some posters is disgraceful.
The suggestion that she is working with the enemy has nothing to back it up. Unless you have something to back it up with, please stop sounding like the lunatic wing of the John Birch Society.

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - The U.S. military in Iraq
The US military in Iraq freed five women prisoners on Thursday, but American and Iraqi officials insisted their release was pre-planned and not linked to the case of the kidnapped U.S. reporter Jill Carroll.
