I thought Olympic games fall on the same years the US Presidential elections fall. I remember 1976 was in Grenoble (sp?), 1980 was in Lake Placid, 1984 was in Calgary, 1988 was in Sarajevo...1994 was in Lillehammer?, 1996 was in Nogano ? -- that's two years difference!
Can anyone tell me what happened to the system of four years?
They changed it a few years ago. Now they have them every 2 years. The next Olympics will be the summer Olympics in 2008.
They used to do winter and summer in the same year - now they alternate every two years.
The summer olympics falls on the same years at the elections. I dont know why they changed it to like it is now, but mabe it was just too much for the stations to handle?
The Summer and Winter Olymics don't both take place in the same year like they used to, they are two year apart. They are still four years between.
They split up the Winter and Summer games in 1994, I think.
They changed this thing about the Olympics being every 4 ys a while back...dont know why they did it, but now with the winter Olympics in Torino in 2006, then the summer Olympics will be in 2008, then the next winter Olympics will be in 2010, and so on...four years between each winter Olympics, and four years between each summer Olympics, but just two years between winter and summer Olympics...
And interestingly, these games are only 80 miles to the east of Albertville, site of the 1992 games.
1992 Albertville, France.
1994 Lillehammer, Norway.
The change was made to not have the Winter Olympics and the Summer Olympics in the same year anymore, and instead have the Olympics on in some form every other year.
