What's wrong with immersion??

I prefer immersion as a teaching method. However, it isn't happening at DISD. Student population is now 63% hispanic...most of whom are illegals. Most of the teachers are the bottom of the barrel...if they could get a decent job, they'd move to one of the suburbs and teach. The horror stories that come from DISD are amazing. It is common, for example, for teachers to sit in class and read a book, and let the kids entertain themselves. Thank the unions for this...and the federal government for letting the illegals in and stay. Under these circumstances, I'd rather see bilingual teachers. They can teach by immersion method...but would be more prone to actually communicate with the kids rather than sit at a desk and do nothing.

Immersion. Living in Spain for a time with a limited vocabulary of Spanish - I learned by immersion quicker than than any other method. Call it a matter of necessity. If the persons around me were required to speak my language - what would I have gained?

I know Joe. I was at his memorial. It was like Paul Wellstone's. I lost all respect for the industry of public education. I still respect good school teachers. My last words to the man were " Have fun playing football on a minefield". The 6 years I have known him. I found him to be very foolish in politics and very myopic. It was never about the students...it was about the power. I took away from his memorial that we have a serious problems that people want to play racial politics with children and US Sovern Laws. They are missing the big picture of what is happening at the border. It was 73% are illegal in his district. They are deported the Joe May's lose their underdogs and power. Whites are a total of 12.5% of total student population. I have been told Dallas schools make New Orleans look good. DISD is the play ground for radical racial politics. They have decided to take their failures to national level. Were we will all suffer. Joe's sister wants illegals to have PROFESSIONAL JOBS. I say she set the example and give her job to an illegal (we know that won't happen). I understand she has a storied past. I understand she is running for House or Something out of Austin. I think we need to send her a message, because Politicos like her are ignoring the big picture. She claimed Joe fought for the underdog, which often broke into his house. I doubt he cared everything came from the salvation army. You have to remember his job required US Citizenship, which I found hypocritical. Furthermore, Tawnell Hobbs is a very lazy reporter. I know she missed key parts of stories.
