I had a pastor who would constantly harp on the need to stay home with kids, and would use his own family as an example, saying that because they took care of four kids while he was in seminary without his wife working, anyone can do it. Then I learned that he was the son of an incredibly wealthy oil exec.

My point is, that while the mother staying home is great, you cannot criticize someone for having both spouses working unless you understand financial hardship.

"Then I learned that he was the son of an incredibly wealthy oil exec."

Envy isn't flattering. Perhaps he did not benefit from that "wealth". Besides many who are NOT wealthy manage to put their kids first, do with less and raise great kids. I'd rather see that than kids whose parents work to "give them what they didn't have" and turn out to be spoiled, ill behaved hoodlums.

..because he was the son of an 'incredibly wealthy oil exec'...doesn't mean he got a free ride.

The incredibly wealthy oil exec may not have given him a dime!

We have some friends with the ..'stay at home mom'.. with 3 children, being homeschooled....

..the son's dad is an incredibly wealthy man....

...the son, however, is making it on his own....

Don't be so quick to judge people.

"unless you understand financial hardship."

How do you define financial hardship? Is like the family does not have enough to eat, is wearing rags, and does not have enough money to heat the house, or is financial hardship not having a fairly new car, not having enough money to eat out once in a while, and not being to afford fashionable clothes, because I think that very few people who claim that both parents have to work due to financial hardship are really financially hard up, they just prefer to have the more prosperous life style that two incomes provides.
