"n the first page Bartlett calls Bush a "pretend conservative""

Haven't read the book, but its hard to disagree with this statement. Bush spends worse than most liberals, has created lots of new entitlements, has signed the atrocious CFR legislation, and ignores bread and butter conservative issues like immigration and border security. He talks a nice game but he has been a disapointment on a lot of fronts. He will not go down as one of our better presidents.

He keeps us secure
He went to give us tax cuts and will do it again
He repealed his father's tax increases
He is going after the rate of growth on entitlements
He went to the mat for John Bolton

He also went for everything he campaigned on.

If Bartlett told himself that W was a traditional conservative then you're right, it's not true.

But there is nothing conventional about this President. And he did tell us what he would do, some folk just didn't want to pay much mind to it.

George W. Bush NEVER promised to be anything else.
I have a lot issues with President Bush, but look at the alternatives (Gore and Kerry).
'Bout the only good thing I can think of is that we might have had "gridlock" keeping the gub'mint from growing so fast!

I agree.

Bush I and II were just another of those "hold your nose and vote RINO" type candidates. Bush II is one of the biggest spender presidents ever and has an immigration policy that will prove disastrous for our country. His foreign policy has been quite acceptable though. I'd hold my nose and vote for him again over Gore or Kerry. He was the least bad of the presidential candidates.

The Republican Party is now a coalition. If the RINO's don't watch out the coalition will fall apart.

Some people are loyal to a fault.

Where does loyalty end? If a had a wife that cheated on him should he stay loyal forever?

Same with politicos, pastors, or anyone with authority. I am a firm believer in loyalty, as long as it's deserved. Not blind loyalty.

Thats' what dictators demand.

You're in a snit, because you don't like what the president has/has not done. This has clouded your ability to think rationally.

I suspect that you are so far to the right, that you're just about completely off the cliff.

A nice, brief summary as to why conservatives are both disappointed and enraged. We have every right to be.
