It can buy independence but if you don`t have anything to do, or don`t have any goals it can turn your life into a prison without realizing it. It`s not how much you have but what you do with your time that counts.
The most screwed up people I`ve ever met in my life are rich, without a doubt! They get it in their minds that they don`t need goals or don`t need to work at anything because they got money, they have "success" and what happens is they lose their will, their lives turn empty, hollow.
I use to work for a spring water company delivering water all up and down Park ave and 5th ave near Central Park, this is where billionaires live, and you wouldn`t believe how screwed up some of them are. They do absolutely nothing, just completely shut themselves off from society spending all their time indoors getting everything delivered to them.
I remember one delivery in particular on Park ave, the doorman said he had been working there for 15 years and not once had he ever seen the guy I was delivering to! It was true, I use to leave the water right outside his door for years and I guess like a mouse coming out his hole when nobody is around, he would take it inside after I left. He would have everything delivered to him, food, water, laundry. Very bizarre and sad.
