"He cannot get a job because he lost his identification. You need a photo id and a social security card (among other choices of documents) to get a job. But like birth certificates, you only get one social security card. If it's lost, mutilated, destroyed, stolen, or floated away, you can't get a replacement."

Wrong. My wife had her wallet stolen just this past January. SS card was in there. She has a replacement on the way. It will be marked as a replacement but you can get a new card.
