GOP group drops effort to pull Schwarzenegger backing
Orange County Register ^ | Feb. 13, 2006 | ORC News

The influential California Republican Assembly over the weekend dropped its bid to yank the GOP pre-primary-endorsement of Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, effectively leaving the measure dead in the water.

Assembly President Mike Spence said today that his group's board of directors, by a majority vote via e-mail and phone calls over the weekend, opted to "stop efforts to rescind the CRP endorsement of Schwarzenegger and to focus our efforts on passing the other resolutions."

Sen. Tom McClintock, R-Thousand Oaks, a candidate for lieutenant governor whom the Assembly endorsed in the recall election, persuaded the board to pursue policy instead of personal attacks, Spence explained.

Glad to see that cooler heads prevailed and for Tom McClintock's role.

We need to unseat a bunch of Democrat State Legislators. We do that and we get real change in the state.

As far as the Republican Party communicating with Email, I can not think of a more asinine thing for anyone in politics or business to do. For heaven's sake, I though there were lots of lawyers among that crowd that would tell them not to do that. Emails come back and bite you, so NEVER email any important or political thing.

A debate will be held on a number of resolutions or at least that's what Duf had offered a couple of days ago.

A fair airing of concerns over some of the governor's decisions and moves will and should be allowed to occur.

See ya there, Susan. :)

I hope the debate will be held in a backroom that only seats 20 people, and it will be during a time when lots of good activity is happening in the main auditorium.

Does the word UNITY have any meaning to you?

Anything except full unity will be exploited by the Dems.

Quite frankly, I am more concerned by the exploitation of the Ca GOP by the New Majority and LGBT brigade.

To you , that seems to matter not. This state has survived dem Guvs before, if it has to wait until 2010 to finally let a conservative in, so be it.

Tom will likely be Lt Gub regardless what happens on the top ticket, you do know that could happen as well.

Taking the path of least resistance does not always guarantee certain victory. The dems and the Gub both now seem to be eager to borrow like never before.

Just win Baby! Don't sweat the details.

Hmmm...I had hopes for as much until I read his letter. I don't appreciate nor agree with his sliming of conservatives. Nor that to disagree with him is to engage in "personal attacks."

That's like saying someone's "racist." Once the card's on the table, there's no possibility of discussion. I'm disappointed in McClintock. Immensely so.

"wait until 2010 to finally let a conservative in"

Sure, just as surely as Bill Simon is the governor today.

geee, funny you should say that about simon, wasn't it your 'team' that turned their back on him after he defeated Rairdon in a legitimate primary, how telling what true spite was and is , huh? ..

Republicans did turn out and voted for Simon, but you don't seem to understand you don't win an election with 35% of the votes (% of Republican voters in CA).

CALIFORNIA VOTER AND PARTY PROFILES

http://www.ppic.org/content/pubs/JTF_VoterProfilesJTF.pdf

"The Democratic Party currently has an advantage of 1.4 million voters over the Republican Party (7.1 million to 5.7 million) or 9 percentage points (43% to 34%), according to the Secretary of State.

Among those most likely to vote in this year’s elections, Democrats outnumber Republicans by a 7-point margin (44% to 37%), while 15 percent of likely voters are registered as independents.

... the fact that independents are more likely to lean toward Democrats than Republicans (42% to 28%) tends to work to the disadvantage of the GOP in statewide elections."

Exactly. And we need to extend the Republican tent, so we will be more than 35% of the electorate and give us a chance to start winning elections.

Well, are you happy to have Feinstein and Boxer as our two great Senators?

I personally would be much happier with people like Arnold.

As I said, you have a choice. But you come down on the side of the likes of Angelides, Boxer and ilk every time. That's hardly a conservative position.

"are you happy to have Feinstein and Boxer as our two great Senators?"

This bears repeating for the RINO haters out there. Esp. in the case of Boxer, who is rapidly becoming a national laughing stock as an off the reservation radical. Having an obvious dim dem bulb like her has as Senator is not embarassing, it is humiliating.

See ya there, Susan.

Would that be Susan Sundheim or Susan Kennedy?

Can't tell the players without a scorecard. They all sound alike.

Duf Sundheim, the Republican Party's state chairman, said Schwarzenegger wasn't in danger of losing the endorsement.

"From the sentiments expressed by Republicans throughout the state, it is clear Republicans wholeheartedly support the re-election of Gov. Schwarzenegger this fall," he said Monday.
