Perhaps Ron was drinking at the time.

It's hard to tell with Ron. He acts so "giddy" all the time.

but it's not the earthshattering event the left would have us believe.

Exactly! And is why I have not even turned my tv on today.

Since you like CNN as an authoritative source, here's CNN quoting an eyewitness:

Whittington shot a bird and went to retrieve it in the tall grass, while Cheney and the third hunter walked to another spot and discovered a second covey.

Whittington "came up from behind the vice president and the other hunter and didn't signal them or indicate to them or announce himself," Armstrong said.

"The vice president didn't see him," she continued. "The covey flushed and the vice president picked out a bird and was following it and shot. And by God, Harry was in the line of fire and got peppered pretty good."

Yep. I'm pretty sure that says behind.

Good post. SOmeone looked up the stats for Wisconsin alone and there were 32 or 34 (I've forgotten) similar accidents last year in that state alone.

Yes, much viciousness to go around, especially with the Bush/Cheney haters on FR.

I do so love how many folks around here embrace CNN with both arms and legs when it supports something they want to claim.

Tell ya what - go back to CNN, and play the video of Katherine Armstrong standing out by the highway describing what happened. Then you'll understand 'behind.'

How ironic for you to make the first statement and then tell me to follow the same source for your own justification. ROFL!!!

Dr. Isadore Rosenfeld just on Fox News explaining the atrial fibrillation using a heart model. He said the shot probably lodged in the outside lining of the heart and started getting inflamed, which set off the fibrillation. He feels that this will not be fatal and that Whittington will recover.

Have the 'Rats considered that calling for Dick Cheney's resignation would set up a vacancy for Condi Rice?

How sad that they can't expend some of this hysteria on Al Gore's abominable, traitorous behavior in Saudi Arabia. Oh gee, I forgot, as a 'Rat he is immune to any criticism, no matter how despicable his behavior.

I agree with this:

"VPOTUS HAS THE POWER TO CALM THE FRENZY [Kathryn Jean Lopez]

We have an editorial up on the hunting accident and the media:

Cheney himself should make a public appearance on the matter, and the sooner the better. He should get himself with a respected national anchor — perhaps Brit Hume of Fox News — as soon as this evening to express his regret and explain in his own words what happened. He should stop relying on press aides who were not present at the accident to tell his side of the story. Not talking only feeds speculation, and aids the cause of those who want to lampoon and smear him. Let's hear from the vice president."

If Mr. Whittingham did not have the heart problems today, I would have said not a big deal. But now, unfortunately, they will continue to blow things out of proportion and speculate.

You have yet to prove that Whittington's position was behind Cheney when the shot was fired. Basic reading comprehension and understanding of linear time is that Whittington was behind Cheney at some point before Cheney's shot.

You see, the implication is that time had elapsed from the phrase "came up from behind".

I realize that this is complicated for you...

If your partners are following basic gun safety on a quail hunt, they aren't going to wheel and fire outside their zone of fire, so them knowing you are 30 yards away isn't the critical issue. Just like any other kind of hunting, you don't run around in the field yelling at your partners. And, if your partners exercise basic safety, you don't have to. When you come up and rejoin the line, you want them to be aware of that because you are closer to the zone of fire.

It's certainly taken attention away from Gore's behavior, hasn't it? That speech the other day is as clear an indication we'll get that Gore has no further interest in politics because he's dead.

As much as I love y'all, I ain't spending Valentine's evening with you.

Good night. And always keep your gun pointed in a safe direction.

A good lesson to remind all of our youth, and a good moment to teach it.

Now, would you like me to explain plane geometry to you?

Consider the following problem: Is it possible for Whittington to have approached Cheney from behind, and never reached within 30 yards of him yet end up to Cheney's side or, in fact, in front of him?

The answer is yes. Feel free to draw a diagram if it helps.

Hint: Let Cheney be the center of a circle...
