Pilots Report Seeing Laser Lights While Flying

Police are on alert after more than a dozen pilots reported someone shining a laser light at the plane while descending into Metro Airport.
The incident occurred in the Dearborn and Dearborn Heights areas, where 16 pilots reported seeing the laser pointer lights near the tower at Metro Airport, Local 4 reported.

Something bad is going to happen over there eventually I just know it. I think about it every month while I sit on middlebelt road waiting for my wife. It would be too easy if someone got their hands on a surface to air missile.
Too many overgrown empty lots, low flying aircraft and islamderthals.

Can someone please explain to worst case scenario of these anecdotal reports.
I'm no expert...
but news reports have said that a well-aimed laser of adequate
power could blind pilot(s) and put a real crimp in flying.
The real worst case scenario is that we'll find out these were
just training runs for some type of laser-guided weapon to bring down
an airliner.
I hope it's just some radical Islamics that are playing it safe
but getting a buzz over "yanking the chain" of the Great Satan.
This would not shock me; soon after the London bombings, I read
that the LAPD bomb squads got quite a few "spoof" on mass transit.
These could just be "testing the defense" and/or hoping to get
arrested for strange, yet innocuous activity...then trot out the
representatives from CAIR, ACLU and Al Gore's office to tell the
world how Innocent Islamics are being persecuted here in the USA.
