It could very well be a joke. I live in the Raleigh Area so I read the Raleigh paper a lot. Barry Sanders fancies himself as a humor columnist. He isn't at all funny but if this is in keeping with his normal columns it is a misguided attempt at humor.

I'm inclined to agree with you, re Barry Saunders.
Pending any furthor complications in the health of poor Mr. Whittingdon....a hunting accident involving the VP of the USA is a natural topic for water cooler jokes and extensive political satire.

I like Mr. Cheney very much, and respect him - almost as much as I respect Donald Rumsfield (who I adore)... here comes the but...
But this is funny!
And the topic is deliciously funny when mangled by liberals and ignorant reporters who haven't the faintest familiarity with guns or hunting in the first place, and confuse being accidentally hit with birdshot as equivalent to being on the receiving end of an "assault weapon". LOL!
