I don't see what the big deal is. I tend to think it should be up to injured man to decide how to proceed. I don't see how any of us are hurt by the fact it took a day to come out. This is such a nonissue it isn't funny.

I think you've touched on what's really happening. The incident is none of the press' business. It's up to the guy he shot and his family whether the press is notified.
If, God forbid, the Vice-President had been the victim, then the press should have been notified.
