sure - air the saddam tapes - at the same time everybody is listening to Cheney's press conference. that way they can claim "see? we didn't hide it", yet nobody will see it anyway. clever. kinda like Clinton manageing to have all damaging stuff come out on the weekend when nobody would hear it, by monday he could say "that's old news, moveon"

I was surprised to hear that Woolsey resigned from this group because the tapes were going to be made public. I hope the reason he resigned is he thinks it's just too soon to go public, not because he doesn't believe in the mission and goal of the group.
Peach, are you aware of any plans for the media to cover this summit or will this be one of those things that we just get trickles of information from?

I am going to keep an eye on Tony Snow today. Perhaps he will have something, or perhaps I am just optimistic that this is going to be bigger than it really is ;)
Rep. Hoekstra is presumably holding hearings that involves listening to those tapes, but I don't know when that will be.
BTW, the ex-UN official who helped translate those 12 hours of Saddam tapes said on Sean Hannity's radio show yesterday that ABC didn't show the appropriate translation of Saddam in one key section. Saddam had said that terrorism and WMD was coming to America but it would be by Iraq.
What Saddam actually said is that Iraq would use a proxy so it would appear that it wasn't done by Iraq.
The correct translation is key on this! How soon I wonder before the left find bodies in the closet of Tierney (sp?) and does everything they can to slime him.
Are the hearings you are referring to something different by Rep. Hoekstra than the summit being held this weekend?
one other thing....I found this and was wondering if the name of the 'guest' speaker had been disclosed?

Well, CNN just gave the first report I've heard today about the tapes which were released to the media this morning. As I recall, not a word about wmds. Nothing.
I have it taped, but not all translated, except for this part, and it's becoming clear that the new spin is going to be NOT that there were or weren't wmds, but rather, was Iraq an immenent threat? and, just like you said, the translator claims that any attack would not be coming from Saddam, rather than any attack would be made to look like not coming from Saddam.
Here's the translated part:
CNN anchor: Any where on tapes you've listened to do we hear Saddam talking about Iraq launching an attack against the U.S.?
Translator: "No, no, No, Not at all! As a matter of fact, it does talk about an attack on the US, but Saddam says that he himself warned America about the possibility but that when it happens would not be coming from Iraq. So he makes it clear, lucky for him I guess, on the tape, he does talk about an imminent attack, but it would not be coming from Iraq. "
