It's a problem that they did not need in light of that same larger scheme of things.

AndI don;t understand this notion that this story doesn't have legs...for a story sans legs, it's been standing quite well.

You don't think that the VP shooting someone is news?

The problem was the delay, not the act, assuming that Cheney was not drunk, as I assume. That is why it doesn't have legs. In the end, there is no substantive issue, just a procedural issue. If it were Bush rather than Cheney, that would be another matter.
