Saddam Transcript -- 'Terrorism Is Coming'
ABC News ^ | 2/15/06 | Saddam Hussein & Tariq Aziz

Posted on 02/16/2006 6:00:14 AM PST by advance_copy

The following is a translation of portions of an undated conversation between Saddam Hussein and Tariq Aziz, his deputy prime minister, that occurred some time in the years before the dictator was removed from power.

TARIQ AZIZ: There is nothing left except the Americans casting doubt that Iraq may produce biological weapons and use them for terrorism…

The serial number of every missile is known, because our suppliers were the Russians, the Soviets. Our missiles are the Russian missiles that we bought. The Russian invoices are clear, sometimes there are discrepancies, but they are checked and they were checked and it was over. This many, 100 missiles. This is the evidence and they cannot …

SADDAM HUSSEIN: The situation is a pity. Had I known that the war would end, we would have found them on Israel's head.

HUSSEIN: Terrorism is coming. I told the Americans a long time before August 2 and told the British as well, I think Hamed was there keeping the meeting minutes with one of them, that in the future there will be terrorism with weapons of mass destruction. What prevents this technology from developing and people from smuggling it? ... This is coming, this story is coming but not from Iraq.

The warning from Saddam Hussein before the Gulf War: "terrorism is coming". Regarding the reference to "August 2"; Iraq invaded Kuwait on August 2, 1990.

ABC News reports that Hussein was saying Iraq would not use terrorists to attack the U.S ("not from Iraq"). Another interpretation, and one I believe is more accurate, is that Hussein was warning they could hit us by proxy and we would not be able to prove it was him. I believe it was a pre-Gulf War threat he was using to prevent us from kicking him out of Kuwait.

Bill Tierney, the man who interpreted the tapes, said on the radio last night -- other tapes show that Saddam Hussein considered that the war with the United States had not ended. He said more information from these tapes is going to be revealed.

Somehow this one line keeps nagging at me, like maybe Saddam knew or suspected he was being recorded....

ABC was trying to make Saddam appear like he was some kind of prophet warning the U.S. I agree with your interpretation.

Why is ABC the filter on this story? Why doesn't the government just simply release the tapes to all media outlets. Something stinks.

You here Diane Sawyers comment on the 6:30pm news? "Sounds like Saddams aids will say anything to keep their boss happy" somewhere along those lines, trying to imply saddams cronies were only saying they had WMD to please their boss.

Why is ABC the filter on this story?

The tapes were acquired by "intelligencesummit.org", a group headed up John Loftus. I wouldn't be surprised if ABC News paid them for exclusive access. Loftus could also be using the limited distribution as a teaser to attact people for Intelligence Summit's $700 per head conference being held this weekend.

There is not enough information. Sorry, ABC and Bill Tierney, but "other tapes show" just doesn't cut it anymore. It's 2006.

Let's see it.

Saddam: "...but not from Iraq."

This statement is as transparent as glass. It is Mafia-speak.

What Saddam is saying is the equivalent of:

"Your wife may have an accident. Roads are filled with trucks driving erratically. There are potholes that can make your steering wheel turn sharply. Of course, it wouldn't be me driving."

we'll have to see the rest of it but my read on this excerpt is this says that Iraq can launder WMDs through terrorists and no need for them to be trackable back to a state like Iraq. When Saddam says but not from Iraq he means it won't be traceable to Iraq.

Exactly and well stated.

Saddam's favorite movie is the GODFATHER. He's also a big Sinatra fan.

Exactly!

Given Saddam's penchant for The Godfather, his words seemed crystal clear: he knew we would be attacked, but that we would never be able to pin it directly on Iraq.

Saddam apparently told some American and British diplomats, as far back as 1990, that WMD terrorist attacks on their countries were coming. And people wonder why we didn't trust him?

One of the people who may well have had advance knowledge of the 9/11 attacks (though perhaps not the exact date), was Susan Lindauer, the former Seattle P-I reporter, self-appointed "diplomat" to Iraq, and distant relative of Andy Card. Here's a blast from the past that makes for some truly fascinating (and scary) reading:
