Whittington working from his hospital room

The man shot by Vice President Dick Cheney was working from his hospital room Wednesday, a day after suffering a minor heart attack, hospital officials said.

Harry Whittington, 78, is in a private room in the intensive care unit at Christus Spohn Hospital Memorial, where he will remain for another six days, hospital administrator Peter Banko said during a news conference Wednesday.

Whittington is in ICU at his request for privacy, rather than for medical reasons, Banko said.

"He's sitting up in a chair, he's eating regular food," Banko said. By Wednesday evening, Banko said Whittington was resting comfortably.

The Austin lawyer is surprised that the accident has attracted worldwide media attention, drawing multiple satellite trucks that remain stationed at the hospital.

"He still wonders what all the hoopla is about," Banko said.

Because it involves Republicans.

"He still wonders what all the hoopla is about," Banko said.

That makes two of us. I think what I find most disappointing about this whole affair is that there really won't be anything we can use against the leftist MSM for hyping this. They'll just claim that it was "investigative journalism", and that the public had a right to know why Cheney or his staff didn't come out about the incident 14-20 hours later.

Here's a thought though: Maybe the story wasn't reported to the press right away because it was just a minor accident between two friends, and even Cheney didn't think it was so pressing to report a minor accident, on the weekend.

I mean, what's next, we're going to demand knowing right away if the President steps on an ant while jogging?

Or how about demanding to know the full details of the VP's next shaving accident?

Or how about a scathing report on whether or not either man uses both sides of toilet paper? They don't? Ah-HA! We got those eeevil Republican tree haters now!

More like: when someone gets shot, there are much more important things to worry about than the shooter informing the mainstream media just so they can demonize him in the national news.

Is it so hard to believe that Cheney was trying to avoid a media mob at the hospital on Saturday night when everyone was unsure of Whittington's condition?

This is obviously the work of Karl Rove. I smell a Weekend at Bernie's conspiarcy. Everyone knows that Dick Cheney blew the guys head off with an Elephant gun while shooting caged Lola Paloma Blancas.

And because he had enough respect for the man and his family to want to delay as long as possible the inevitable media onslaught disrupting their lives.

Thanks--I've been in the car for a while this morning, and the Austin stations are reporting that he is doing well. It is such a relief to hear this!
