"Cheney did not go to the hospital with his injured friend. If I had shot someone, I would BE THERE for them."

He was to busy to go to the hospital because he was preoccupied by the need to not notify the media because he wanted to make sure his friend was OK...AND there was the dinner party he had to attend about an two hours after the accident.

However, Cheney said he'd had a couple of beers before going hunting. What does "a couple of beers" usually mean?

In the interview I saw, he said he had one beer with lunch several hours earlier. Do you have a source for this "couple of beers" quote?

Even if he had a couple of beers while hunting, it means nothing, -- as the alcohol in beer is burned off very rapidly.

See post #183.

I don't disagree. But the poster said "a couple of beers" in quotes and I wondered where that came from, since it differed from what Cheney said in the interview. If he can't source it, it reflects more on the poster than on the topic.

Cheney was very specific - one beer at lunch. Until I hear a source for the statement to the contrary, that is what I believe.

Your reply was simply re-stating my position...

No, it wasn't.

...the only difference between conservatives and liberals, or between the majority of the people in this forum and the people in DU, is political affiliation.

Good heavens. I've been a registered Democrat for nearly 50 years, campaigned for HST in 1948 and while there aren't many dinosaurs like me left we still have a few Scoop Jacksons around.

Party affiliation has nothing to do with my morals or patterns of behavior or what I think.

I prefer Democrats on the local level because we are better picking up the garbage since the Republicans have someone else carry out the trash.

As to national defense Republicans are far better. They have more to lose. But you won't find any better stewards of our national defense than FDR, HST, JFKennedy, LBJ, RMN, RR, GWBONE and two. I'll grant you that Woodrow Wilson was an idiot but don't forget he was from Princeton.

Familiarity breeds contempt. I despise far more Democrats than Republicans simple because I know where the Dems are coming from better and what they are really going after...besides what any politician does besides money.

I wish Vice President Cheney really meant it when he spoke of the 'citizen legislator' because too many legisltators around the country at every level is in in for life and for profit and the benefits are extreme.

Then there are the career employees at all levels of government who bring along their friends and relatives and they all stay forever scratching each others back.

Pigs at the trough, all of them. There should be term limits for every damned office in the land starting with Mayor and Town Board President on up to the tippy top. And no relatives for a period of two generations...some slack at first given the number of bastards hanging around out of sight.

But believe me. Party affiliation is meaningless...unless you seek to control the destiny of the party and boy oh boy did I screw that one up.

The difference is what we believe is right and what is wrong and whether it is worth fighting for.

Thom is big on the 2nd Amendment and while I support gun ownership I believe there is a real need to register guns. I don't believe gun manufacturers should be sued for negligence and I don't believe the police should have the right to knock me down on the floor and step on my head because they know I have guns in the house, car, tractor, plane and barn...and one out in the trees if I'm able.

My dream was to take the time to retire to Wyoming and set up my ranch in a box canyon guarded by nothing smaller than the old german 88. Hell, I can't even put trip wires and landmines around the house to keep the crooks out anywhere I live anymore.

Oh, brother. The Secret Service is going to allow their #2 subject to handle a gun drunk. Yeah. Right.

Yeeeaaaahhhhhh, it would be my guess that most men in their late 60's with a serious heart condition would
probably want to down a few pints of ale before tramping out into the woods to do a little quail hunting. I
would imagine that his doctor probably prescribed the drinking of several pints of ale each day. That's it,
he uses the drink for medicinal purposes.

Toe-Licker. Don't forget Butt-Kisser as a useful adjective for this POS.
