UAE company takes stake in Time Warner, hires Icahn Staff and agencies 16 February, 2006

WASHINGTON - United Arab Emirates-based media investment company Istithmar PJSC, through $2 billion in participation notes issued by UBS AG, now controls 2.39 percent of Time Warner Inc.‘s (NYSE:TWX - news) stock and has hired one of Carl Icahn‘s entities as its advisor, according to a regulatory filing on Thursday.

The notes give Istithmar effective control over and economic exposure to over 109 million Time Warner shares, the filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission Securities and Exchange Commission said.

Under the agreement, UBS does not have economic exposure or control over the shares.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - United Arab Emirates-based media investment company Istithmar PJSC, through $2 billion in participation notes issued by UBS AG, now controls 2.39 percent of Time Warner's (Research) stock and has hired one of Carl Icahn's entities as its advisor, according to a regulatory filing Thursday.

The notes give Istithmar effective control over and economic exposure to over 109 million Time Warner shares, the filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission said.




Under the agreement, UBS does not have economic exposure or control over the shares.

Good grief, they are on a spending spree these days - CSX World last year, retail of Citgo/Texaco in Dubai recently, 1.1 B Manhattan commercial real estate in 11/05, P & O Nedlloyd, now this!

The UAE and the Republic of Kazakhstan yesterday signed a joint action plan pledging cooperation in several sectors.

The plan involves implementation of energy projects, exploration and processing of minerals, setting up of joint ventures in infrastructure and telecom sectors

OK, now your post has confused me a bit. An arab muslim company has hired part of Carl Ichans group to help it manage its time/warner holdings? Isnt Ichan a Jew? I was under the impression he was Jewish. If I am correct, this is most odd.
